A young pastor steps into the pulpit for the first time, words still new on his tongue, heart pounding with purpose. In the quiet of the congregation, a senior church member watches—and remembers.
While He Preaches is a stirring 2–3 minute monologue told from the perspective of an older believer—perhaps a grandparent, mentor, or former pastor—silently praying as a new leader takes the stage. It’s a story of spiritual legacy, deep hope, and a sacred passing of the torch.
Perfect as a voiceover, live narration, or part of a worship service or pastor appreciation event, this piece honors the unseen prayers and faithful hearts that quietly shape the next generation of church leadership.
Sample Script
(Monologue – 2–3 minutes)
(Soft tone. A senior church member watches from the pew.)
There he is…
His first sermon in this great church of ours.
Hands a little shaky.
Voice still finding its rhythm.
But oh—how the fire in his heart is steady.
I remember when he first walked through those church doors.
Couldn’t have been more than eight or nine.
Sat in the back with his parents—making a lot of noise and never minding.
And yet… he watched everything.
I might even say, he listened.
And now—here he stands.
At the pulpit.
Somewhere in the back, a baby cries—
and still, he keeps going.
Bringing the Word.
Preaching the Gospel I’ve heard my whole life…
But somehow, it feels new again.
