Told with humor and honesty, Tongue Talking© tackles one of the most debated topics in the church—speaking in tongues. Through a casual beachside conversation between two believers, this skit highlights the misunderstandings, assumptions, and theological tensions that often arise among denominations. But beneath the comedy lies a deeper message: unity in Christ is more important than uniformity of practice.
Perfect for youth groups, adult studies, or inter-denominational services, this two-person script offers both laughs and reflection, encouraging respectful dialogue and Christ-centered focus.

[Scene opens with Jan and Terry standing, holding beach towels, gazing out toward an imaginary lake. It’s a sunny day, and the mood is relaxed.]
Jan:
All right then, here we are, all ready for a day on the beach. Lovely day it is too.
Terry (grumbling):
Well, yes it is, but that traffic on the turnpike was awful! I’m telling you now, I am not looking forward to the drive back to the city tonight.
Jan (calling out to imaginary child):
Little Johnny, you come back here! Away from the water—must be cautious that a big wave doesn’t come along and sweep you out to sea!
Terry (looking at calm water):
But there isn’t a breath of wind. The water’s smooth as silk.
Jan:
Can’t be too careful. Besides, little Johnny should be under an umbrella. You know how he sunburns—poor dear.
Terry (pointing offstage):
Look at those kids out there, diving off the raft in the deep part of the lake.
Jan (leaning in, whispers):
Yes, but those are... (lowers voice) from Denomination A, you know.
Terry:
Denomination A? How can you tell? They’re more than a quarter mile away.
Jan:
Well, see—they hold their hands up high and kinda sway back and forth when they dive in.
Terry:
Really? I hadn’t noticed.
Jan (knowingly):
It’s subtle, but it’s there. Trust me.
