To Know His Name
To Know His Name

VBS is about to begin, and Maddie is determined to keep everything organized. Nametags, markers, snack counts, supplies, she has a system for all of it.
Unfortunately, Jax, Nora, and Tucker are not exactly helping the system.
Jax keeps turning serious moments into jokes. Nora notices things nobody else sees. Tucker is wearing too many nametags, asking snack-related theological questions, and somehow getting tape stuck to himself. Together, they stumble their way through the week, opening one name card each night from a box labeled “To Know His Name.”
Five skits in total, each short skit introduces one name of God, one Bible story, and one truth children can carry with them:
Abba — Our Father
Jesus welcomes children close.
Jehovah Tsidkenu — Our Righteousness
We are made right with God by His mercy, not by showing off.
Jehovah Jireh — Our Provider
God knows what we need and provides enough for today.
Adonai Tza’ot — Lord of Hosts
When the battle is too big for us, God is not outnumbered.
YHWH — I AM
God is holy, eternal, present, and near.
With a recurring closing line, “When we know His name, we learn His heart”, this five-part VBS skit series gives churches a memorable opening moment for each night of VBS.

Sample Script
Sunday — Abba: Our Father
Scene opens at the VBS registration table. MADDIE is carrying a clipboard, a stack of nametags, and several markers. She is trying very hard to keep everything organized.
MADDIE:
Okay. Nametags here. Markers here. Allergy stickers here. Nobody touch the allergy stickers unless you are allergic to something—or responsible for someone who is.
JAX strolls in wearing a crooked nametag.
JAX:
What if I'm allergic to boring instructions?
MADDIE:
Then you're going to have a very difficult week.
JAX:
Already feeling symptoms.
NORA enters and quietly begins helping straighten the table.
NORA:
Maddie, where do you want the extra name cards?
MADDIE:
Alphabetical... no... by grade... wait... leaders separate from kids. Preschool separate from everyone because last year somebody named a glue stick "Kevin."
TUCKER wanders in with several nametags stuck to his shirt.
TUCKER:
I found extras.
MADDIE:
Tucker... why are you wearing six nametags?
TUCKER:
In case I forget who I am.
JAX:
Honestly... that's planning ahead.
MADDIE:
Please take them off. Carefully.
TUCKER attempts to remove one.
TUCKER:
This one is part of me now.
MADDIE:
Could you just stand over there for one minute? I need to get everything ready before the kids come in.
TUCKER:
But... I am one of the kids coming in.
A brief silence. NORA notices Tucker's expression.
NORA:
Maybe he could help.
MADDIE:
He has nametags on his elbows.
TUCKER:
Only one elbow.
JAX notices a decorated box sitting on the table.
JAX:
What's this?
MADDIE:
Careful. That's for this week's theme.
JAX:
It says... "To Know His Name."
TUCKER:
I already know my name. Most of it is stuck to my shirt.
NORA opens the box and removes the first card.
NORA:
Tonight's card says... "Abba—Our Father."
TUCKER:
Abba? Like the music group?
JAX:
My aunt cleans the whole house whenever those songs come on.
MADDIE:
Not that ABBA.
NORA:
Jesus used this word when He talked about His Father. It's a family word. A close word.
TUCKER:
So... like Dad?
NORA:
Very much like that.
JAX:
That's different than I expected.
NORA:
Tonight's Bible story is about people trying to keep children away from Jesus.
TUCKER:
Why would anybody do that?
JAX:
Probably because children are sticky.
TUCKER looks at the nametags covering his shirt.
TUCKER:
Fair.
NORA:
But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me." He wasn't bothered by them. He wanted them close.
The group grows quiet for a moment as everyone looks toward the "Abba" card.
