A strong foundation doesn’t seem important… until the storm comes.
In The House on Solid Rock, Jesus shares a simple but powerful story about two friends, two houses, and two very different foundations. Caleb wants a beautiful home by the sea, built quickly and admired by everyone around him. Eleazar chooses the slower, harder path—building on solid rock.
But when the storm arrives, appearances no longer matter.
This short dramatic sketch brings Matthew 7 to life in a memorable and visual way that works beautifully for children’s ministry, family services, sermon illustrations, VBS, or church-wide worship gatherings. With humor, heart, and a meaningful ending, the story reminds audiences that lives built on Christ can withstand even the fiercest storms.

JESUS:
Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Let me explain with a story…
EXT. SHORE OF THE SEA - DAY 1
Eleazar walks along the shore and sees his friend Caleb finishing his new home.
ELEAZAR:
Caleb!
CALEB:
Eleazar!
Caleb goes to hammer a nail but hits his hand instead.
CALEB:
(Yelps) That nail moved!
ELEAZAR:
Sorry, friend! I didn’t mean to startle you.
CALEB:
(Laughs it off) It’s alright! If I had a piece of silver for every time I’ve done that, I’d be the richest man in Israel!
ELEAZAR:
What are you working on?
CALEB:
The finishing touches on my brand new house!
ELEAZAR:
You built your house… on the sand?
CALEB:
Isn’t it wonderful? I’ll wake up every morning to the beautiful sea!
ELEAZAR:
(Lightly) Caleb, when a storm comes, your house won’t stand.
CALEB:
Well where did you build yours?
ELEAZAR:
Across the water—on solid rock.
CALEB:
Mine isn’t going anywhere! Mark my words!
ELEAZAR:
Storms don’t listen to words.
CALEB:
A solid foundation takes too much time. Besides, no one sees it.
