We all know what it’s like to be thirsty—but not all thirsts are physical.
The Big Thirst begins with casual, everyday conversation about food and drinks, then turns unexpectedly honest as one character shares a personal journey through addiction and recovery. What unfolds is a gentle but powerful reminder that beneath our habits, struggles, and coping mechanisms lies a deeper longing—to be loved, valued, and enough.
This short drama speaks with authenticity and compassion, pointing audiences to the only source that truly satisfies: the living water found in Christ. Ideal for worship services, recovery-focused events, or outreach moments where real stories matter.

Sample of script:
Marilyn and Sam come on stage.
Marilyn: When my family wants a great meal, I serve them my specialty… home-cooked lasagna!
Sam: Well, my specialty is Tom and I taking the kids to McDonald’s for lunch… where a seven-course meal is stuffed between two slices of bread.
Marilyn: Oh, my kids love McDonald’s too. I think what they like best are the endless refills of Dr. Pepper… Actually, it bothers me that they drink that stuff—pure sugar!
Sam: Count your blessings! My little brother is into energy drinks. It’s nothing for him to go through half a dozen in one sitting.
Marilyn: I don’t like energy drinks. I think they’re dangerous.
Jamie comes on stage, unseen by the others.
Sam: Well, I’m not sure what anyone sees in energy drinks. I keep telling my brother he must be awfully thirsty!
Jamie: No one ever drinks because they’re thirsty.
Marilyn: Oh—hi, Jamie. We didn’t mean to say—
Sam: I hope you didn’t think that we were—
Jamie: I am a recovering alcoholic. I have been sober for almost five years, but I am still a recovering alcoholic. I’m not proud of some of the things I went through, but I’m not hesitant to talk about it. I’m not sure why others seem to be so uptight about the subject.
Sam: But like you say, you’ve been sober for five years, so you’re… cured.
Jamie chuckles.
Jamie: Sam, I am an alcoholic. I will never be “cured.” It’s just one day at a time.
Marilyn: I am so proud of what you’ve done, Jamie… how you overcame addiction.
Jamie: Don’t get me wrong—I did work hard at recovery, and I work at it every day. But people forget that alcoholism is a disease—different in some ways from other diseases, but alike in many ways as well.
Sam: Is it the taste that gets you hooked?
Jamie: I have lots of friends who are alcoholics. I can’t recall hearing anyone say they love the taste of liquor.
Sam: Then why… drink?
Jamie: For a person to start excessive drinking, there has to be a searching… for something.
Marilyn: Excessive? How much is excessive?
