Betty picks up phone

leave enough time in the beat for Frank to respond, during which Betty shows care and compassion.

Hi, Frank.  It’s Betty Wilson from the church here.

(pause)

I’m just fine Frank.  And how about you?

(pause)

Sorry to hear that, Frank.  Good news is that kids get over measles fairly quickly.

(pause)

I hope I haven’t caught you at a bad time, do you have a few minutes to visit with me on the phone?

(pause)

Good, then.  I’ll come right to the point, Frank.  As you know, I am the Drama Coordinator at the church.  I am very thankful you have been involved in drama ministry.

(pause)

Well, I’m glad to hear that you are finding drama so rewarding.  Frank, I believe that we need to get more people involved in the leadership of the drama program.  We need to draw on the strengths of a wider group of people, and to build up new leaders.  I have been watching you in the drama program, and you have a good eye for detail, and a pleasant manner with those around you.

(pause)

Yes, I am asking that you consider being a drama leader.  However, I assure you that you will not be thrown into the thick of things without some training and preparation.  You would begin in an apprenticeship role, learning more about leadership.  You would not be leading by yourself until both you and I feel you are comfortable with the duties.
