Written by Blake Randolph
Step into Bethlehem through the eyes of some very unexpected storytellers, three camels with big personalities and even bigger memories. In “The Animals’ Nativity Adventure,” Abigail, Benjamin, and David invite the audience on a fast-moving, funny, and heartfelt journey from quiet Nazareth to a crowded Bethlehem stable, where the King of kings arrives in the most humble way.
Along the way, kids meet Mary and Joseph, a slightly overwhelmed group of innkeepers, an army of angels, hyper-excited shepherds, and a whole barnyard of animals: Lamby the lamb, Jacob the donkey, Carlos the cow, Peggy the pig, and more. They share what they saw, what they felt, and how that tiny baby in a manger changed everything—for them and for us.
Underneath the jokes, puns, and playful interruptions (David the camel has… a lot of them), this script clearly presents the gospel: our sin, Jesus’ perfect life, His death and resurrection, and the invitation to put our faith in Him. It’s designed for children, but adults will find themselves nodding, laughing, and maybe tearing up right alongside them.
This is a wonderful choice for children’s church, a Christmas family service, a school program, or a church-wide holiday production where you want solid biblical truth wrapped in a fun, approachable package.

FADE IN:*
*BETHLEHEM - NIGHT 1*
*Abigail the Camel, Benjamin the Camel, and David the Camel walk out on stage and notice the audience.*
ABIGAIL
Oh, hello there adventurers! My name is Abigail.
BENJAMIN
I'm Benjamin!
DAVID
And my name is David!
ABIGAIL
Welcome to one of our favorite places in the whole wide world- Bethlehem! Many people dream about HUGE cities that stretch as far as the eye can see, but not us. We love it here in this cozy, little town.
DAVID
Now, I know what you might be thinking: "This town is SOOO tiny! How can anything exciting happen here?" But trust me. I'm a camel, the most intelligent animal in ALL of Israel, as you probably already know. And the smartest out of these three.
BENJAMIN
HEY!
ABIGAIL
David! Don't you remember what John the Baptist said? We must decrease and the Lord must increase. How do you think you're smarter than us?!
DAVID
My brains are so smart I have extra stored in my humps! —pretty SPECIAL, right? (Laughs) Oh ALL RIGHT I'm sorry, friends, I was just kidding! We are all three equally smart! We are the chosen companions for the THREE WISE MEN after all!
*All three laugh.*
ABIGAIL
David is right. We are the chosen companions for the three wise men, also known as the Maggi. We traveled to this little town many, many years ago.
BENJAMIN
Why, you ask? Here’s the secret: this town might be small, but something HUMONGOUS happened here a long time ago. It was the BIGGEST…BRIGHTEST event to ever take place and it happened right here in Bethlehem!
ABIGAIL
This is where the Son of God was born, Jesus, The Savior of the world! And we got to see him with our very own eyes! How did all of this happen, you ask? Well, that’s what we’re about to tell you! So, follow us, friends!
*MARY’S HOUSE - DAY 2*
*Suddenly, the scene changes to the town of Nazareth at Mary’s house.*
ABIGAIL
We will return to Bethlehem a little bit later. Our story actually begins in another small town- Nazareth. This is where Mary and Joseph, Jesus’ parents lived!
BENJAMIN
One bright morning-
DAVID
(Interrupting Benjamin) Bright is an understatement?! Does anyone make sunglasses for camels?
BENJAMIN
(Clears throat to get David’s attention)
DAVID
Oh sorry, Ben! I didn’t realize you were talking. You know my hearing is bad. (Loudly) I got too much sand in my ears!
BENJAMIN
I told you that you need to get your ears checked, David. Anyway, Mary was in her house doing her daily chores, like we all do when, suddenly, an angel named Gabriel appeared!
*The angel Gabriel appears before Mary.*
ABIGAIL
As you can guess, this scared Mary.
*Mary screams and hides behind a table in the house.*
ABIGAIL
Gabriel smiled and began to tell Mary the good news!
GABRIEL
Rejoice, the Lord is with you! You are blessed among women! Do not be afraid Mary, you have found favor with God. You will have a Son and He will be called Jesus. He will be great and be called the Son of the Highest! Jesus will reign over a kingdom that will never end!
MARY
(Gasps) How can this happen?
GABRIEL
Remember, Mary, with God all things are possible!
MARY
I am a servant of the Lord, and I will do His will!
*Mary and Gabriel exit.*
DAVID
That… was… AWESOME! We just saw an angel!
ABIGAIL
Mary was shocked beyond belief by this news! She was having a baby boy, and He was going to be the Savior of the world, the Messiah!
BENJAMIN
She hurried to tell Joseph the good news, but he felt scared about marrying her after hearing what the angel Gabriel had told her. Joseph did not fully believe what Mary was saying. So God sent Gabriel to Joseph’s house and appeared before him in a dream.
*JOSEPH’S HOUSE - NIGHT 3*
*Joseph comes out on stage, throwing his hands up in confusion and frustration. This is set right after Mary told him about her being pregnant.*
JOSEPH
Lord, I do not understand what Mary is saying to me! How can this be possible?! Lord, please show me what I need to do.
*Joseph yawns and lies down to sleep. Then, Gabriel appears before him.*
*(Excerpt ends.)*
