The Crucifixion (Scene 7) is a deeply moving readers' theatre presentation that takes the congregation to the foot of the cross during the final moments of Christ’s earthly ministry. Through powerful narration, reflective dialogue, and simple staging, this scene captures the sorrow, injustice, sacrifice, and overwhelming love revealed at Calvary.
Part of the Stages Of Messiah series, this drama focuses not on elaborate production, but on the emotional and spiritual weight of the crucifixion itself. The alternating readers, combined with a frozen tableau of the cross, create a solemn atmosphere perfect for Good Friday services, Easter presentations, communion observances, or Passion Week gatherings.
With minimal set requirements and flexible casting, churches of nearly any size can present this unforgettable moment in a meaningful and reverent way.

Scene VII – The Crucifixion
R1: Mortification!
R2: Degradation!
R1: Humiliation!
Narrator: When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified him, along with two criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
R1: He had been brought to this place by fear, bad judgment, lies, false testimony, jealousy… but mostly by sin!
R2: Arrested in the pre-dawn by a gang of thugs—thugs recruited, orchestrated, and urged on by temple leaders.
R1: Tried in mock trials by Roman officials who fully knew of his innocence, but who were weak and easily stared down by a show of uprising.
R2: Taken directly—immediately—from trial to the place of punishment and death, violating their own Jewish law.
R1: They placed on his head a crown of thorns and forced him to carry his own cross on shoulders ripped apart by cruel whips.
Narrator: “Hail! King of the Jews!”
R2: They hung him from the cross. Above his head, they fashioned a sign which read:
Narrator: “JESUS OF NAZARETH… KING OF THE JEWS.”
R1: The chief Jewish priests objected to this sign, begging Pilate to change it to:
“This man claimed to be King of the Jews.”
Narrator: But Pilate replied:
“What I have written, I have written!”
