🐍🎪 Slith on God’s Grace
A puppet-and-clown skit about courage, misunderstanding, and the incredible gift of grace
Message:
Sometimes we’re too afraid to step out... especially when we don’t realize that God is offering us His strength to do it. When Slith the puppet mistakes people for monsters and thinks “taking courage” would be stealing, hilarity and heartfelt teaching collide! Thankfully, a cheerful clown steps in to explain that grace is a gift—not something we earn, but something we receive.
Theme Verse:
📖 “Take courage, do not be afraid.” – Isaiah 41:10
Runtime: 5–7 minutes
Cast: 2 (Clown + puppet character Slith)
Style: Interactive comedy, great for children’s church, family service, or VBS
Stage: Puppet stage or small platform
Props: Puppet (Slith), candy, optional simple costume for clown
Setting: Flexible and budget-friendly—can be done with minimal setup
Sample Script:
SLITH (peeking out from behind Puppet Stage) Is safe to be coming out?
CLOWN Safe? Of course it is safe. Why wouldn’t it be.
SLITH (stretching neck all around, shaking — stage whisper) Der were all dese strange creatures, horrible monsters. Dey were scary to look at. Oh well — maybe I was Halicun — Halucin — uh, seeing things. Cause is very hot, you know, is very hot and... (turns and screams at people — jumps down behind stage)
CLOWN (screams in response to Slith’s scream)
SLITH (hiding — peeks at clown, shaking a lot — stage whisper) Der dey are, der dey are! (disappears)
CLOWN Slith, come out here.
SLITH (peeks nose up) NO! Slith is no coming out there with those scary monsters. Are you crazy? Slith does not like scary monsters. (disappears again)
CLOWN Slith, you're being silly. Come on out. Those aren’t monsters — those are people. See! (points to audience)
SLITH (lays nose out and sniffs through teeth) Peoples? Are dey dangerous? (still shaking)
CLOWN NO!
SLITH (screws up mouth in disbelief)
CLOWN (to audience) Why don’t you ask Slith to come out, then maybe he won’t be afraid. OK? (motions to audience to help) Come on out Slith. It’s OK.
SLITH (stretches neck and peers at the people) Is OK???
CLOWN It’s OK! Slith, you really need to learn not to be so easily frightened. You know the Bible says, “Take courage, do not be afraid.”
SLITH (incredulous) Slith no can take courage. Are you kidding?
CLOWN (surprised) Why not?
SLITH (stage whisper, peeking at audience, talking to clown) You knooooow! Is not mine. (rough voice) Would be stealing.
CLOWN NO, that’s not what God means, Slith — God means take His courage.
SLITH (shrieks — looks at audience, drops mouth) Can you believe this clown? Not only wants Slith to steal courage — wants Slith to steal from God. (turns to Clown) You are being silly.
CLOWN NO Slith — not steal from God. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He provided something called grace.
