🌿 When sorrow lingers, hope still calls...

Seasons© is a stirring one-minute monologue that tenderly explores the journey through depression toward hope. With haunting reflections and slow, deliberate movements, the actor embodies the sorrowful seasons of the soul — until, in a quiet moment, the whisper of God’s promise brings light into the darkness.

This powerful piece, drawn from Isaiah 60:1, is ideal for worship services, special programs on healing and restoration, or as an intimate moment in a larger drama.

A simple set, minimal props, and a heartfelt performance are all that’s needed to leave a lasting impact.

Cast: 1
Run Time: 1 minute
Theme: Depression, Healing, Hope
Bible Reference: Isaiah 60:1

Scene Ideas:

  • Minimalist stage:
Almost empty, emphasizing loneliness and introspection. Just one or two simple objects to hint at the emotional landscape.
  • Soft, low lighting:
Begin with dim, cool lighting (blue or soft purple) to symbolize sorrow. Gradually warm the lights (golden tones) during the hopeful ending.
  • Background:
A neutral backdrop — black curtains, grey fabric, or a textured wall — to avoid distractions and make the actor’s emotions the focus.
  • Slow movement across stage:
The actor could slowly "wander" a few steps, pausing thoughtfully as they seem to "pick up" invisible memories or hopes. Movement should be measured and almost heavy at first, becoming slightly lighter by the end.

Prop Ideas (use only 1–2, not all):

  • A small chair or bench:
The actor could sit briefly when overwhelmed, then rise again when hope stirs.
  • A single withered flower:
Could be picked up or looked at early in the piece, symbolizing loss — maybe held in the hand during the sorrowful part, then set down when hope rises.
  • An old journal or book:
Could symbolize memories or untold wisdom. Actor might carry it loosely or set it down thoughtfully.
  • A simple scarf or shawl:
Something the actor wears and gradually adjusts — first wrapped tightly during sadness, then loosened as hope grows.
  • Candle (unlit to lit if safe):
Begin with an unlit candle placed nearby. During the final hopeful lines, either physically light it or simply gesture toward it.

Sample script:

Sad seasons of the soul surround me…

Like a haunting dream that sits on the wakening mind…

Heart and passion fail me

Alluding to times remembered

To what was, what is and what will become.

Hopes kisses, caress me, woo me,

Causing me to sit, to find, to entwine

And embrace the journey inside.

What secrets hide in its shadows?

What gifts are buried in the ruins of this place?
