This monologue explores the beauty of reflection, using a prism as a metaphor for how God's light shines through us. A woman of any age, dressed in everyday clothing, holds a small prism and contemplates its ability to transform ordinary light into a stunning display of colors and shapes. She realizes that, like the prism, people may seem ordinary but are designed by the Creator to reflect beauty, grace, and holiness. The monologue challenges the audience to consider how they reflect God's light in their lives. The performance requires no special set, sound, or lighting—just a simple, heartfelt message about transformation and purpose.

Actress enters stage carrying a prism, gazing at prism.
Actress, startled: Oh, hello! I forgot you were coming today. (Smiling.) No
offense, of course!

(Holds up prism.)

I was just looking at something that was given to me.
It’s a prism. You know, I’ve had this thing for a few days now, and I just can’t seem to stop looking at it. I find it so interesting. What really gets me is that you look at it and it is just a hunk of glass. There is really nothing special about it. Until the light shines through it!

Have you ever seen a prism? I’m sure everyone knows that when light hits a prism it gives off the most amazing reflection. When the light hits it at different angles, it changes the reflection totally.

Amazes me that even though the light is the same and never changes, the reflection can change so much.

The first thing I noticed about the reflection was all the beautiful colours.

For something that sure doesn’t look like it has much inside, it can sure give off an array of beauty.

I also love the shapes that the prism reflects. If you look real closely at a prism, it looks like there’s just a bunch of jagged edges. But when it reflects such beautiful images, it is almost like the maker knew exactly what to do and how to create the perfect cuts so that the prism could be radiant.
