Start the year with more than a resolution—make a transformation.

This short, powerful drama opens at a New Year’s Eve party, where friends share their yearly goals: losing weight, learning an instrument, or just trying to “start fresh.” But when one woman admits she hasn’t decided yet, the moment sparks something deeper. As the noise of the party fades, she’s left alone in thought—and the question becomes not what she’ll commit to, but who.

New Life Resolutions© is a heartfelt and humorous skit that ends with a stirring call to commit to something more lasting than gym memberships or lifestyle tweaks—faith in Jesus Christ. Perfect for New Year’s services, youth nights, or small group gatherings, this 5-minute sketch reminds us that real change doesn’t come from our own strength, but from the One who gives us life.

Sample of script:

Scene opens with four actors sitting around at a party, discussing their New Year's resolutions. Additional people can be “silently” partying at the side to indicate a larger crowd. Be sure the “crowd” isn’t making any noise and ensure their movements are very minimal, so as not to distract from the main stage.

Fran:
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am determined to lose 15 pounds this year. Then I am going to run a 10k race!

Pat:
That's not a very original New Year's resolution, Fran! You say the same thing every year—January 4th comes around and you always say, "I have too much going on in my life right now."
Now me, on the other hand, I've always wanted to take trombone lessons—that's my goal for the year! Then by July, I'll play with the symphony!

Bev:
You both are crazy! Just keep it simple! Don't make such outrageous goals for yourself, or you'll only get discouraged. Just commit to start fresh!

Pat:
Sure... (mocking) that's a good idea, Bev.
(To Fran) How boring!

Fran (nodding):
How about you, Jean? How are you planning on changing your life in the new year?

Jean (caught off guard):
What? Uh, well, you know! Probably the usual, I guess—exercise more, uh, be kinder to animals—that kind of thing, I suppose!

(Pat, Bev, and Fran all look at each other in amazement.)

Pat (slowly):
You mean you don't know what you're going to commit to in the new year?
Wow! Have you got a lot of thinking to do!
