This dramatic mime performance illustrates the value of purity and responsibility, using a dish as a metaphor for one’s life and body. Actor #1 carefully treasures and protects the dish, while Actor #2, envious and reckless, manipulates and ultimately destroys it through neglect and abuse. The second scene presents Actor #4, engaging in self-destructive behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and drugs, despite Actor #3’s attempts to intervene. Eventually, Actor #4 collapses, symbolizing the tragic consequences of misusing one’s vessel (body and soul). The play serves as a warning about the dangers of misusing what God has entrusted us with.
Estimated Run Time:
8-12 minutes (accounting for mime movements, dramatic pauses, and scene transitions).
Biblical Reference:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
This scripture reinforces the importance of treating one's life and body with care, aligning with the message of the performance.
Sample of script:
(Actor #1 enters, holding the dish very carefully and lovingly. They take a large cloth out of their pocket, carefully clean the dish, breathe on it, and rub an imaginary spot off.)
(Actor #2 watches from outside the acting area. After a little while, they begin to react negatively to all the care Actor #1 is giving to the dish. Their reactions increase in intensity until they finally start to walk toward Actor #1.)
(Actor #2 stops, then mimes to the crowd that they are going to take the dish away, claiming it as their own and signaling that they intend to break it.)
(Actor #2 then continues toward Actor #1. Just before reaching them, Actor #1 lovingly sets the dish on a shelf and stands back, admiring it.)
(Actor #2 taps Actor #1 on the shoulder, mimes "Hi," and shakes hands. They then point to the dish and mime, "Can I hold it in my hands?")
(Actor #1, kindly but firmly, responds by miming "No," showing that the dish is very breakable and should remain on the shelf. They illustrate this by miming a falling action with their hands, dabbing at their eyes with a handkerchief, and using their hands to indicate that the dish must stay on the shelf.)
(Actor #2 becomes increasingly insistent, begging Actor #1 by dropping to their knees and folding their hands in a prayer-like position. Actor #1, reluctantly, gives in but pleads with Actor #2 to be careful.)
(Actor #2 smiles at Actor #1, then turns to the crowd with a sly leer and winks.)
(Actor #2 turns back to Actor #1, holds the dish with one finger, and swings it around carelessly. Actor #1 reacts in horror, desperately trying to retrieve the dish, but Actor #2 keeps it just out of reach, teasing them.)
