Everybody wants life to mean something. We look for purpose in happiness, success, possessions, knowledge, and the things we accomplish. But what happens when none of those answers are enough?
In Meaning to Life, Bill is determined to reason his way through one of humanity’s biggest questions. Jane and Rhonda soon discover that his search seems to create more questions than answers. Their conversation takes a thoughtful and sometimes humorous turn as they consider where real meaning can be found.
Inspired by Ecclesiastes, this three-person Christian skit reminds us that faith does not always give us every answer about life. Faith in God gives meaning to life.

Script sample:
Bill is seated center stage with eyes closed and hands folded, obviously deep in thought. Jane enters. She notices Bill, tries not to stare, then finally approaches.
Jane: Excuse me?
Bill does not respond.
Jane: Excuse me. Are you all right?
Bill opens his eyes, slightly annoyed.
Bill: Yes. Can I help you?
Jane: Actually, I was wondering if I could help you.
Bill: I’m fine.
Jane: You’re sitting here with your eyes closed looking very serious.
Bill: I was concentrating.
Jane: On something important?
Bill: Extremely.
Bill closes his eyes again.
Jane: What?
Bill opens one eye.
Bill: What, what?
Jane: What are you concentrating on?
Bill: The meaning of life.
Jane: Oh.
Pause.
Jane: Find it yet?
Bill opens his eyes.
Bill: You don’t just “find” the meaning of life.
Jane: Then what are you doing?
Bill: Searching for it.
Jane: That sounds a lot like trying to find it.
Bill: It’s more complicated than that.
Jane: Apparently.
Bill tries to return to his concentration.
Jane: So what have you figured out?
Bill: Happiness.
Jane: Happiness?
Bill: The goal of life is happiness.
Jane: That was quick.
Bill: It took centuries of philosophical thought.
Jane: You’ve been sitting here five minutes.
Bill: I’m building on previous work.
