This powerful Christian monologue, inspired by 1 Peter 2, places the audience directly in the role of soldiers receiving their commanding officer’s charge. With military imagery and the story of sacrifice, the piece draws a clear parallel to Christ’s ultimate example—calling believers to live lives worthy of the One who gave everything for them.

Simple to stage with no special sets or technical needs, this script works well in worship services, youth groups, or special programs. The actor may wear army attire to enhance the impact, but the strength lies in the words and direct delivery.

Message: Living as a memorial to Christ, who died so we might live
Cast: 1 (monologue)
Length: 6–8 minutes
Bible Reference: 1 Peter 2

Sample script:

Josephson, Marcusson, be seated!

It is my duty as your commanding officer to review your conduct and carriage under fire here in this division. You have come to this place from very greatly divergent courses.

Lieutenant Josephson, may I apprise you that your conduct in the past few months has been unbecoming an officer in this regiment. I have received your letter asking for clemency, citing the fact that you have been beaten and mistreated while in enemy hands as a prisoner of war.

Though obviously this army feels for your time spent as a POW, the fact is that you were captured by the enemy while, against orders, wandering in an off-limits area. Not only did your actions place yourself in danger, your reckless actions necessitated that your superior officer, Colonel Jessop, found it necessary to single handedly enter enemy territory to free you from the enemy.

As you are well aware, in the course of securing your freedom, Colonel Jessop died, martyred for your sake.

I need not remind you, soldier, that the fact that you are alive today is due solely to the actions of Colonel Jessop, and that these actions were undertaken on your behalf and for your best interests, selflessly and undeservedly.
