Friendship can get messy. Tracy feels betrayed by people once considered close—but Donnie challenges with a bigger picture: Christian love. This short, relatable skit shows what it means to forgive, even when others act like “jerks.” Based on Christ’s example of love toward Peter and Judas, Loving Jerky Friends is a clear, funny-yet-serious reminder that real discipleship means loving when the world stops loving.

Biblical Reference: John 13:34–35 — “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Sample of script

Tracy and the group are upstage at one side, miming arguing violently, (no sounds at all, but animated gesturing which clearly show conflict). After a short time Tracy gestures “frustration, he is leaving,” walks downstage to opposite side of stage where Donnie has been standing silently, head down.

Tracy: I give up on them!
Donnie: Them? Who’s them?
Tracy: The guys I thought were my friends.
Donnie: You thought they were your friends? I take it you no longer feel they are your friends?
Tracy: No. No, I don’t!
Donnie: What happened to make you feel they are no longer your friends?
Tracy: Well, it’s what they did to me today.

Group look at each other, shake heads, show sorrow.

Donnie: But, I take it they did good things with you prior to today.
Tracy: I’m not even sure they ever really were my friends.
Donnie: What makes you say that? Have they treated you badly in the past?
Tracy: Probably.
Donnie: Probably? You mean, you don’t really know of anything they’ve done wrong to you before? Then what makes you say they probably have?
Tracy: Well, it’s just if they really ever were friends, they wouldn’t have done what they did today.

Group look at each other, shake heads, show sorrow.

Donnie: Hey, time out, let’s think this thing through. You honestly can’t remember them ever doing anything rotten to you in the past, right?
Tracy: Well, right, but . . . .
Donnie: Hey, no buts! Just admit that you can’t remember them being miserable in the past.
Tracy: Well, I’m sure that . . .
Donnie: Come on, either point out some time when they were miserable with you, or else admit that this has never happened before.
Tracy: Look, I can’t just . . .
Donnie: Sorry! Doesn’t fly! Gotta be one or the other.
Tracy: Well, . . . OK, so, maybe, . . . I suppose maybe this might have been the first time they were real out-and-out jerks.

Group look at each other, show tenderness.

Donnie: Fine, we’ve nailed that one down. Now, then, ever heard of Christian love?
Tracy: Look, that’s a stupid statement, of course I have. And I know where you’re going on this one, and it’s not gonna work . . .
