When kids argue over something as small as a book, it sparks a deeper conversation about discipline, consequences, and how justice really works. Justice Delayed is a lighthearted yet thoughtful 4-minute skit that reminds us that God’s justice may not come instantly, but it always comes in time.

Family life can mirror God’s lessons about justice, mercy, and love.

  • Theme: Justice delayed is not justice denied—God’s justice must not be flaunted
  • Bible Reference: 1 Kings 21
  • Cast: 2 adults on stage (20s–30s), 2 off-stage children’s voices
  • Run-time: ~4 minutes
  • Requirements: No special set, props, costumes, sound, or lighting

Sample of script:

Tracy and Jerry are sitting at a table having coffee at center stage, chatting. Two children are off-stage throughout the drama, as though just out of sight. The two on-stage actors keep glancing in that direction.

Tracy:
It’s good to have you back home, Jerry. Did you have a good holiday?

Jerry:
Yes, it was great, but being alone on a holiday in the Caribbean isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s nice to get back home. Nice to see people you know, hear familiar voices.

Off-stage voices as Jeffie and Susan start to argue.

Susan (off-stage):
Give me back my book, Jeffie! That’s my book!

Jeffie (off-stage):
Oh don’t be such a baby, Susan. I’m only looking at it!

Tracy looks off-stage at the children, thinks.

Tracy (aside):
Holiday alone in the Caribbean, huh? No familiar voices, you say? Maybe we could trade?

Susan (off-stage):
Mom! Tell Jeffie to give me my book back!

Jerry:
Those kids are soooo cute!

Susan (off-stage):
Mom! Jeffie took my book and won’t give it back!

Tracy:
Yeah, right. Cute! That’s the word I was looking for.

Susan (off-stage):
You give that book back this minute, Jeffie!

Jeffie (off-stage):
Make me, why don’t you?

Tracy (calm):
Jeffie, you know about the consequences of bugging your sister.

Jeffie (off-stage):
Awww, Mom!

Tracy (calm):
Jeffie, remember—consequences.

Jeffie (off-stage):
Sorry, Mom! I know, I’ll go to my room and we’ll talk about it later.

Tracy:
Thank you, Jeffie.

Jerry:
You know, Tracy, something I admire about you: you never seem to get rattled around your kids, no matter what’s going on. If that were me, I’d be yanking that book away from Jeffie and getting it back to Susan.
