Sample Script:

(Mime enters stage, wandering around, looking very sad. Looks around, sighs deeply, and sits down, silently crying.)

Mime 2 enters, notices Mime, and approaches with enthusiasm.

• Mime 2 (waves energetically, says “hi”)
• Mime (waves back sadly)

(Mime 2 takes their index fingers, draws a smiley face on their own face, claps hands, and laughs uproariously.)

• Mime (remains unsmiling)
• Mime 2 (draws a smiley face on Mime’s face)
• Mime (shakes head negatively, points to own “tears” using index fingers, shakes head, bows head, very sad.)

Mime 2, deep in thought, walks upstage, looks at Mime. Suddenly, a realization strikes—lightbulb moment!

(Mime 2 turns upstage briefly, then turns around, miming beating a drum, walking around Mime, very happy.)

(Mime 2 goes to Mime, mimes offering the drum, draws a smiley face on own face, then gestures to Mime, pointing at Mime, drawing a heart, molding hands as if holding the heart, then putting it in own pocket.)

(This represents: “I will give you this drum, and you will be happy, if you give me your heart.”)

(Repeats the gesture to reinforce: “Drum to you, heart to me.”)

• Mime (shakes head even more sadly, draws tears on own face, looks down, crying.)

Mime 2 walks upstage, deep in thought. Lightbulb moment! Turns upstage, then back downstage, very serene. Walks to Mime.

(Mime 2 mimes being among friends, appearing very fashionable. Mimes conversation, kissing someone’s cheek, pouring a drink, handing it to someone, smiling—very high society.)

(Mime 2 goes to Mime, mimes offering a drink, introduces Mime to unseen people.)

• Mime (tries drink, looks around at the “people,” hands drink back to Mime 2, sits back down, even sadder.)
• *Mime 2 again mimes offering drink and friendship to Mime, draws a smiley face on own face, gestures to Mime, points at Mime, draws a heart, molds hands as if holding the heart, puts it in own pocket.)

(This represents: “I will give you this friendship and you will be happy, if you give me your heart.”)

(Repeats gesture to reinforce: “All this to you, heart to me.”)
