Script
(Jean and Bev are sitting at desks/table. Lauren enters, carrying a handful of papers and envelopes.)
LAUREN
(Cheerfully) Mail’s in.
(Bev jumps up, quickly takes the mail, and starts sorting through it.)
BEV
(Eagerly) Is there an announcement about Project X, Lauren?
LAUREN
(Shaking head) Sorry, nothing, Bev.
BEV
(Frustrated) What’s up with Home Office? … They talk, talk, talk about it, but nothing’s getting implemented!
JEAN
(Calmly) You know full well our friend Paul promised many years ago that it would happen.
BEV
(Skeptical) Yeah, I get it, Jean. And Paul’s a good enough guy, but it’s kinda tough keeping our troops in the trenches waiting forever!
JEAN
Bev, you know very well our company head has made it clear—we, all of us, have been chosen for the project. No one’s getting cut out. We are lifers!
BEV
(Still unsure) Okay… but how can we be sure of what lies ahead at the end of our time here?
JEAN
(Confidently) Our contract with our leader specifies we have permanent status.
(Lights fade to black.)
