Humble Help

God expects humility, and a substitute pastor gets a full measure of humility from the comical statements of two of the church's leading ladies.

God asks for humility from His children.  However, practicing it is the real challenge!

Cast:   This drama involves 3 people.  A male will be needed for the character of the pastor, (appropriate clothing), and two women will be needed as congregation members.  They should be in their Sunday best, with purses.

Sound / Lighting:  No special lighting or sound necessary.

Script

(Scene opens with Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Penny standing on either side of the Pastor at center stage.)

MRS. PENNY
Well, I admit that I didn’t get all of it, Pastor, but I do think that was a wonderful sermon!

PASTOR
Oh, thank you, Mrs. Penny. But it is the Lord’s gift I am using.

MRS. SMITH
The way you relate scripture to everyday situations is tremendous, Pastor!

PASTOR
While I appreciate the compliment, Mrs. Smith, just remember—it is the Lord speaking through me.

MRS. PENNY
And to think that we almost weren’t going to have you!

MRS. SMITH
Another stroke of God’s perfect timing, that’s what it is!

PASTOR
Oh, I am sure that no matter who came to fill in for Pastor Green, you would be equally blessed.

MRS. PENNY
You really sell yourself short, Pastor! You have a way of saying exactly what the congregation needs to hear!

PASTOR
Thank you again, ladies. God speaks to a willing heart.

MRS. SMITH
(Excited) There you go again! That’s so true! A willing heart! (Looking in her purse) Where’s a pen? I must remind myself of that one!

MRS. PENNY
A gift from God, that’s what you are, Pastor! A gift from God!

PASTOR
Well, ladies, thank you, but I think you are forgetting that I am really no more than the vessel that God uses for His work.

MRS. SMITH
(Pauses, in awe) A vessel. Wowww! Sooo well put, Pastor!
