Mary reacts with surprise

N2:          Highly favoured? . . . What would cause Mary to feel highly favoured? Left to explain her remarkable situation to her family, to her friends, to her neighbors, even to the man to whom she was engaged to be married?

N1:          “The Lord is with you!”

N2:          Wouldn’t Mary have been justified if she questioned the value of the Lord’s presence given the enormity of the task which was thrust upon her?

N1:          “You, Mary, are highly favored.”
