Echoes Poem

It starts with a word, a thought, a feeling,
Someone, something….
Like a heartbeat, an ongoing pulse…
A beat – over and over again.
Sometimes we call upon it after it happens - just once…

Sometimes it is triggered by
A song, a fragrance, a taste, a view, a memory
Someone, something, anything and
Sometimes we don’t want to
Recall, remember, remember...

The memory, the beat, the pulse, the pulse,
Repeating, hammering, head and heart.
Again and again, over and over,
But more importantly the scars, the wounds,
The pain – tearing down, wearing down, bearing down,
Staring down…
Striking again, again…
What can I do to stop this – echo. . . .
