Life isn’t a walk in the park; it’s a battlefield. In Dressed for Battle, a believer in midlife chaos finds humor in the madness while realizing that peace and strength aren’t found in caffeine or clever comebacks, but in the armor of God. Honest, relatable, and full of heart, this monologue reminds us that faith is the best defense against life’s daily ambushes.

Sample Script
Lights up. The character sits at a cluttered kitchen table, coffee mug in hand, hair slightly frazzled but eyes full of weary determination.
CHARACTER:
You ever wake up and realize you’re already behind? (beat) I woke up this morning to my alarm—which apparently went off thirty minutes ago. The dog’s howling, the toast is smoking, and my phone has seventeen notifications. I haven’t even had coffee yet and I’m already losing the war.
(leans back, sips coffee)
You know, Paul called life a battlefield. I used to think that was just... poetic. Now I’m starting to think he owned a minivan and had a mortgage.
(laughs to self)
This morning, I’m running late, trying to get out the door, and my kid asks if I know where her left shoe is. Her left shoe. Like I’ve got GPS tracking on footwear. So there I am, crawling under the couch, whispering prayers like, "Lord, if You can part the Red Sea, surely You can help me find this shoe."
(pauses, a bit softer)
But that’s just it, isn’t it? It’s not the big battles that wear us down—it’s the little ones. The nagging, everyday skirmishes. The bad news from the doctor. The bills stacking up. The moments you feel invisible. The temptations you thought you were done with. The thoughts that sneak in when the house is quiet. (beat) Sometimes, it feels like the world has declared war and forgot to tell me.
(leans forward)
So yeah, I could use a little armor. Not the shiny, medieval kind, I’m talking about the good stuff. The belt of truth, that’s the one that holds everything else together. Truth keeps you steady when everything else tries to knock you off balance. And if I’m honest, the world’s been pretty good at trying to loosen that belt lately. Lies about who I am, what I’m worth, what matters most. But truth, God’s truth, tightens things back up. . .
