This lighthearted yet meaningful skit explores the concept of giving with a willing heart as taught in Exodus 25. The play follows a humorous misunderstanding as Character 2 searches for people with open hands, thinking this is a literal requirement for giving to God. Through an engaging back-and-forth dialogue with Character 1, they come to understand that God desires offerings given joyfully and eagerly, rather than reluctantly or out of obligation.
The skit emphasizes that giving is an act of worship, meant to be done with enthusiasm, joy, and an open heart, rather than with resentment or reluctance. With moments of comedy and reflection, Willing Hearts is a great tool for teaching about generosity, stewardship, and joyful giving in a relatable way.

Sample Script
(1 is on stage, sitting or standing, “doing nothing.”)
(2 enters, goes directly to 1, takes 1’s hand, lifts it—1’s hand is closed, palm down. 2 examines it.)
1: Uhhhhhhhhh, mind maybe telling me what you might be doing?
(1 ignores 2, continues examining 1’s hand.)
2: Nope! Not you either!
(2 goes on to others, examines hands, shakes head. 2 throws up his hands in frustration.)
2: OK, so where am I supposed to find these people?
1 (confused): “These people”?
2: Exactly! Pastor says you will find this kind of person in the congregation. Ya right! They don’t exist is what!
1: “They”?
2: Exactly!
1: Exactly what?
2: Exactly where is a better question!
(1 looks around, confused look on face.)
1: OK, where’s the camera?
2: The camera? What are you talking about?
2: We are talking church here! This here is serious stuff! Don’t you be going on at “candid” and “chuckle” and all this silly stuff! Now can you help me find an answer to this problem or not?
1: My best guess is that the answer will be easier to figure out than the question. Mind telling me what the question is?
(2 talks fast and excitedly.)
2: OK, see, the pastor says go find people who will come forward to the call, . . . Exodus, . . . Moses, . . . mountain, . . . consecration, . . . giving, . . . find people, . . . must be right, . . . need to know what is the real . . .
1: Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up there . . .
2: How am I supposed to find out who is . . .
1: (Firmly) 2, listen closely. Take a deeeeeeeeeeepppp breath.
2: And you are just the same as all the rest of the people I have checked out—your hand isn’t open either and . . .
1: Slow . . . slow . . . let your mind and body relax . . .
2: Well, I am trying really hard to . . .
1: Trust me, it will all be good. Just relax and slow down . . . Now then, slowly, quietly, calmly, tell me what you are doing.
(2 takes deep breaths, calms down.)
1: See, doesn’t that feel better? Now then, tell.
2: Well, the pastor was preaching about Moses on the Mountain.
1: Exodus?
2: Exactly. And about consecration.
1: Yes, yes, I understand.
2: And how the Lord accepted the sacrifices of those who were open-handed.
