A Short Drama About the Voice We Hear

When someone calls us names or makes us feel small, it can be hard to shake off the hurt. But when that pain lingers, we need to ask: Who said that? Is it the voice of truth—conviction from the Holy Spirit—or the voice of shame and lies?

In this heartfelt sketch, a discouraged friend is comforted by two companions who remind her of her worth in Christ and the importance of forgiveness and truth.

🔹 Theme: Discerning conviction from condemnation
🔹 Bible References: 2 Corinthians 7:9, 1 John 1:9
🔹 Run Time: 6 minutes
🔹 Cast: 3 actors (any gender, any age)
🔹 Set/Props: Minimal – chairs optional, no special props
🔹 Style: Realistic, youth-friendly, adaptable to most settings

Perfect for youth nights, small group discussions, or worship services dealing with forgiveness, self-worth, or the work of the Holy Spirit.

Sample Script

[Scene opens with Actor 2 sitting on stage, visibly upset. Actors 1 and 3 enter, chatting.]

1:
So anyhow, my mom and I, we had such a truly awesome weekend, I was so sorry it had to end.

3:
Great to hear 1! I had a great weekend as well; all my family went to the cabin at the lake.

1:
Don’t you just love it when everything seems to go right!
(sees 2, reacts)
Oh hi 2, didn’t see you sitting there, how are you?

[2 doesn’t move or react.]

3:
2! Earth to 2, come in please!

[2 still doesn’t react. 1 walks over and shakes 2’s shoulder.]

1:
2, what’s wrong, why aren’t you answering?
(shakes shoulder)
2! Answer me!

[2 looks up, mournfully.]

2:
Oh, hi 1, 3.

3:
You look like you have lost your best friend.

2:
Guess you could say that all right.

1:
You lost your best friend?

2:
Well, not so sure now, but I used to always think she was my best friend.

3:
What happened to make you so sad, and to have your best friend walk out on you? Was it something you said?

2:
No, actually it was something she said.

3:
Your best friend said something and now she walked out? What did she say?

2:
She said I am stupid and can’t ever get anything right.

1:
Your best friend said that about you? Wow! I’d be scared to think what your enemies say if your best friend treats you that way 2!

3:
Some friend! Sounds like a real loser to me!

2:
No, 3, you see you don’t know Sharon, she is a really neat person . . .

1:
Really neat people do not call their friends stupid.

2:
No, 1, I am sure it must have somehow been my fault, I mean . . .

3:
OK, 2, tell me what happened.

2:
Well I was walking home from school and Sharon came by on her bike, asked me why I didn’t bring her homework home for her. I told her I didn’t know what she was talking about. That’s when she started screaming at me and calling me names and saying I am stupid and can’t ever get anything right.

1:
Why did Sharon think you would have brought her homework? Do you usually bring her homework home for her?

2:
No, I have never brought her homework home for her.
