When I Become A Man
When I Become A Man

A short poem describes how, as children, we long to become adults. And it speaks of how as children we see others as people, but how this often changes as we grow older, when rather than seeing others as people and friends . . we see their culture, ethnicity, skin color and social and economic status. Sometimes, it seems as though maturing into adults comes at a great cost.
Bible Reference: Proverbs 18:
Cast: 1
Set, Lighting, Sound, Costumes: standard
Time: 2
Sample of script:
A child at play
Longs for the day
When he can stand alone
No more to rules atone.
All dragons I shall slay
. . . .
When I become a man.
Every child will be
Good friend to me
A playmate and delight
Together we will frolic free
To make my day more bright
. . . .
But I must become a man.
Now I've grown and aged
And I’ve turned the page
On childish play and facts
The one I see in front of me
Is from across the tracks.
. . . .
I see clearly as a man.
Look at that drab man
Once I thought of him as kin
Was I then so blind
That I paid no mind
To the color of his skin?
. . . .
I’m changing as a man.
