When God Made You (Duet with Natalie Grant) - Eddie Carswell, Michael O'Brien
There may be one or more mimes, and if more than one they may operate as distinct individuals, (example, one mime being the male, another being the female, the rest being witnesses to this happening) or all mimes may be performing as the central / primary thought in the song. The instructions here will use the premise that there is only one mime, or if more than one all will be performing as the central / primary thought in the song. Therefore in the instructions we refer to “mime” however this can indicate mimes (plural) where applicable.
This is a beautiful but difficult song to mime since the words are so much feeling rather than action. Therefore it will be a matter of complimenting the words rather than creating a mood with the actions.
Run-Time: 4-5 minutes
Cast Number: 1+
Opening: At opening, the mime is sitting at center stage, thinking, looking off downstage left or right, frozen.
Line 1: "It's always been a mystery to me"
- Action: A slight frown, thinks, hands upward, palms out, moving as though to work through fog.
Line 2: "How two hearts can come together"
- Action: Stands, moves swiftly in ballet steps toward downstage. Right hand upward to right moving to chest level, left hand upward to left moving to chest level to grasp right hand.
Line 3: "And love can last forever"
- Action: Hands outstretched moderately forward at chest level, looking up, smiling. Hands clasping, holding opposite arm just above elbow in the form of an embrace.
Line 4: "But now that I have found you, I believe"
- Action: Looking from left to right, face registers recognition. Tips of fingers move to temple while continuing to focus on a downstage imaginary person. Moves backward in a few slow, long strides.
Line 5: "That a miracle has come"
- Action: Looking up, arms raised and outstretched, arms moving downward to shoulder height. Eyes are focusing on something happening right in front, smile of almost disbelief.
Line 6: "When God sends the perfect one"
- Action: Moves hands in cupped position together in front of body, eyes staring at hands.
Line 7: "Now gone are all my questions about why"
- Action: A sliding step to the right, a sliding step to the left. Hands in front of body, together pointing in the direction the body is moving. Amazed smile on face.
Line 8: "And I've never been so sure of anything in my life"
- Action: Holds softly clenched hands at face level directly above shoulders, looking up, overwhelmed.
Chorus 1: Line 9: "I promise that wherever you may go"
- Action: Kneels on one knee, hands extended, sweeping from left to right.
Line 10: "Wherever life may lead you"
- Action: Hands extended, palms up at shoulder height.
Line 11: "With all my heart I'll be there too"
- Action: Stands, extends right hand, palm upward as though inviting the other person to take that hand.
Line 12: "From this moment on I want you to know"
- Action: Right hand stays as in previous action, left hand, palm upward, comes across the chest to the center of body.
Line 13: "I'll let nothing come between us"
- Action: Left hand outward, palm out as though to prevent anything coming near. Face shows stern resolve as it looks toward that outside force, then softens in a smile as face moves back to "partner" at right.
