Sometimes the hardest truths are the ones we stumble over the most.
In What Say?, a well-meaning believer struggles to share the Gospel with clarity. This high-energy monologue—fit for a young man or woman—is filled with humor, hesitation, and heartfelt urgency. The performer speaks to an invisible audience, distracted by everything from shoes to shirt colors, while trying to explain the most important truth of all.
Just when the message seems lost in the rambling, another voice breaks in—a frustrated audience member demanding clarity. What follows is a powerful outburst of truth: that God loves us and calls us to commit our lives to Him, never to be alone again.
This short drama ends with a solemn moment and a voice from Scripture:
“Then he opened their minds to understand at last these many Scriptures!” — Luke 24:45
Perfect for youth groups, evangelism weekends, or worship services centered on outreach. What Say? offers laughter, frustration, and ultimately, a powerful reminder that the message of salvation must be spoken clearly—and boldly.

Okay, (confidently) I have to speak to you about something. This is something that is very important—and serious. I can't believe that I haven't already addressed this with you! Anyway, it's vital that we discuss it. (takes a deep breath) Okay, here goes.
(Actor pauses, gathering themselves to start into the explanation.)
Now this topic is clearly an important one, you realize! I wouldn't trouble you if it wasn't extremely vital for me to say. This is it—this is what I have to say.
(seriously)
Many years ago, I came to the decision that I believe . . .
(casually, glancing downward at the shoes of someone in the audience, pauses, gets excited)
Those are nice shoes you’re wearing!
Do you think those would come in my size? I’m quite fond of blue shoes—maybe even black sometimes, you know? I haven’t bought new . . .
(looks up at what would be a disapproving face in the audience)
Oh, ha ha, sorry. I tend to get a little carried away when I’m excited!
Anyway, I really have to get down to business! The reason why I asked you to meet me here was so that I could explain to you something that you need to know. Listen up!
(pauses for a moment, looking at two people in the audience)
Did you know that you two are wearing the same shirt?
Isn’t that just the most . . .
