Step onto a blank stage and into a heart-stirring journey with Waiting For Who?, a 12-minute, three-person drama that holds up a mirror to our excuses and challenges us to answer God’s call. As Marty and Dallas wander through missed connections and well-worn rationales, the offstage Voice of God cuts through the noise: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Grounded in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30), the Lord of the Harvest (Matthew 9:37), the call to leave home (Matthew 19:5), and Gideon’s fleece (Judges 6:37), this skit blends humor with conviction, inviting your congregation to stop waiting on “someone else” and step forward in faithful service.

Scene Excerpt
(Lights up. Center stage, MARTY paces anxiously, checking a watch and glancing offstage. DALLAS stands SL, observing.)
MARTY
Doesn’t that just beat all—how do you figure some people?
(MARTY resumes pacing. DALLAS steps forward, puzzled.)
DALLAS
Excuse me, Marty…
(MARTY ignores and continues pacing.)
DALLAS
Excuse me, Marty… mind telling me what you’re doing?
MARTY
I should think it’s rather obvious, Dallas.
DALLAS
Well… it might be to some— but for someone like me, where it isn’t obvious… exactly what are you doing, Marty?
MARTY
Well, if you must know… I am waiting for Jessica.
DALLAS (confused)
Jessica Thompson, you mean?
MARTY
Yes—seeing as Jessica Thompson is the only Jessica we know, I’m waiting for Jessica Thompson!
DALLAS
Thing is, she’s out of town—gone to Hawaii. Not back for two weeks.
MARTY
Well, if that don’t beat all! How inconsiderate can Jessica be? Gone to Hawaii and left me standing here waiting!
DALLAS
That’s not like her… did she know you planned to meet here today?
MARTY
Dallas Burrows, I’m here every day precisely at this time.
DALLAS
Sorry, Marty—I didn’t know that.
MARTY
But you are here, Dallas—so you’re saying it’s coincidence we met here today?
DALLAS
I was on my way to church, decided to take a shortcut through here—never did before—so… yep, coincidence.
MARTY
Well, I like that! Here I could’ve been waiting all day, and like Jessica, you’d’ve kept me waiting for nothing.
DALLAS
Maybe if you’d let me know you’d be here, it might’ve helped.
MARTY
Sure—blame me because I didn’t tell Jessica and you I’d be here.
DALLAS
Well, actually—that’s kind of what I’m saying… I mean, we’re not mind readers.
MARTY
And why are you on your way to church? It’s not Sunday—it’s Tuesday.
DALLAS
Pastor called anyone interested in missions to a meeting today. You were there—you heard it. Why aren’t you coming?
