If we have faith the size of a mustard seed we can move mountains.
But what are our feelings when a family member or friend develops an illness that has been labelled terminal. As Christians, we know that God can, and does, miraculously heal all forms of illness and disease. How do we handle our faith when God does not provide a miracle?
This monologue speaks of the struggle we, as Christians, go through “when the mountain isn’t moved.” Some lines from the hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul” are sung by the actor.
(John Alexander): I wrote this monologue in support of a lady who moved beside us in an RV park, her husband had been given weeks to live.

No matter how dark . . .
It will be OK.
God’s still in control . . .
(pause, thinks)
Right?
I mean, . . .
(pause, thinks)
Didn’t God say he wouldn’t give me more than I can handle?
That is a promise I can count on.
Right?
(pause, thinks)
But God . . . I am about at the limit of what I can handle, God.
I know . . . there must be a song to sing at times like this . . .
(sings, tentatively)
It is well . . . with my soul,
It is well, . . . it is well, . . . with my . . .
(pause, thinks)
Why isn’t it working God?
(pause, thinks)
Why is it that it’s so easy to sing when things are going right?
(pause, thinks)
This isn’t one of those times God.
It isn’t easy to sing and . . .
(pause, thinks)
Where are you God?
(pause, thinks
Oh my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
(pause, thinks
Sorry God, but . . .
(pause, thinks)
See God . . . I know you are able. . .
And you know my loved one is ill.
(pause, thinks)
Doctors say he is . . . terminal.
