Hell is no laughing matter. In The H Factor©, audiences are confronted with the sobering truth of eternity through drama, sound, and even video. When Sean wakes up chained and confused in a dark place, he quickly learns he’s not in a dream… he’s in hell. With the help of a cold and calculating demon, Sean begins to remember the moments in life when he ignored the truth about Jesus—and realizes just how many chances he let pass by.

By Elaine Morrison
Based on Matthew 10:28"Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

[Scene opens. The stage is completely dark.]

SFX: Sound of car tires screeching, followed by a loud crash.

[Lights up slowly. SEAN is center stage, arms chained to the floor. He begins to stir.]

Sean (groggy, confused):
Where am I?

[DEMON enters stage left, casually flipping through a clipboard.]

Demon (with a sly grin):
Ah… a new arrival… welcome.

Sean (alarmed):
Where am I? Who are you?

Demon (calmly):
My name is insignificant.
Where you are… is not.
Welcome to your eternal resting place. (glances at clipboard)
Ah… Sean, is it? Welcome to hell, Sean.

Sean (in disbelief):
Hell?? Are you for real? Is this a joke?

Demon (deadpan):
Believe me… this is no joke.

Sean:
What gives? What am I doing here?

Demon (mock sympathy):
Still shell-shocked, I see.
Hmm… well, if you need an explanation, I shall give it to you.
You died.
This is your new home.

Sean (remembering, panicked):
I died? Oh… (pause) oh!!
What about everyone else? There were others in the car with me!?

Demon (checks clipboard):
No. No one else came with you.
Either they didn’t die…
or they went in a different direction, my friend.
But my concern—or should I say duty—is to take care of you, and enlighten you… so to speak.

Sean:
Enlighten me? This isn’t making sense!
Why am I chained here? Why can’t I move?

Demon (mocking):
The chains?
Not that you’re able to go anywhere...
Now that you’re here, you have nowhere else to go! (laughs)
You see, you are in hell.
Eternal damnation?
The house of fire?
Satan’s playground?
This is it, my friend.
You are stuck here… forever.

Sean (desperate):
This can’t be right!? Why me?
What did I do wrong!?
