Some conversations happen right on the edge.

The Bridge places the audience in a quiet, late-night moment where despair and interruption collide. A man arrives at a bridge believing his story is over—until a homeless stranger, with nothing to offer but words and presence, refuses to walk away.

What begins as an awkward encounter turns into something deeper: a reminder that God often sends help from the places we least expect. With only two actors and a simple setting, this powerful drama explores hopelessness, unseen worth, and the thin line between giving up and holding on.

This skit doesn’t shout. It listens. And by the end, it asks the audience a question they won’t forget: What if one conversation is enough to change everything?

Run-Time: Approximately 8–10 minutes

Sample script:

The scene is a bridge at night.  A single streetlight casts a pale glow.  A DESPONDENT MAN slowly enters, then stops at the bridge railing and peers downwards with a look of despair.  He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a photograph, stares at it longingly, then puts it back in his pocket.  He grabs the railing and starts to climb over.  A HOMELESS MAN suddenly appears from the darkness.

HOMELESS MAN:
Hey, buddy, can you spare a couple of dollars?

The DESPONDENT MAN STARTS in obvious alarm. He sees the HOMELESS MAN and calms.

DESPONDENT MAN:
You scared me to death!

HOMELESS MAN:
Sorry about that, pal. Just wonderin' whether you could spare a dollar or two. I ain't had anything to eat for a couple of days.

DESPONDENT MAN:
You picked the wrong guy.

HOMELESS MAN:
Yeah… figures.

The HOMELESS MAN turns as if to leave.

DESPONDENT MAN:
Wait.

The HOMELESS MAN stops and looks back.

HOMELESS MAN:
What?

DESPONDENT MAN:
What makes you think I have anything to give?

HOMELESS MAN:
Most folks that come to this bridge this late at night…
they’re usually thinkin' about something other than money.

Pause.

DESPONDENT MAN:
You should mind your own business.

HOMELESS MAN:
I would, if it looked like you were keepin' it.
