Strength of Feather

This poem beautifully compares the soaring flight of birds to the sustaining power of God's love and the quiet strength of a friend. It begins by marveling at how a small, fragile bird can reach great heights—not through sheer strength, but through the power of its feathers. In the same way, God's greatness is not just in His might, but in His undeserving love that carries us through difficult times. Similarly, the support of a true friend is not about raw power but about resilience, kindness, and unwavering presence, like a flower standing firm against the storm. True strength, the poem suggests, lies not in force, but in the quiet, enduring support that uplifts others.
Poem sample:
Look up and see the bird on high
Majestic creature of the sky
Not bound by earth to dwell thereon
But free to play with clouds and sun
Oh how can he, so small and frail
Achieve the heights that I must fail?
Surely his muscle, bone and might
Provide the force that gives him flight.
But those who study birds that soar
From lofty cliff to ocean shore
Will tell it’s not the strength or force
That gives support throughout the course.
It’s not the muscles, sinew, bone;
He could not fly with those alone.
It is the feather, they do tell
The strength of feather serves him well.
So too it is with God on high
Who made the worlds, created sky
The very God with power so great
That with a word can day create
Yet it‘s not God’s awesome power
That sees me through my darkest hour
No, it is from His throne above
He gives me undeserving love.
