When Jimmy’s frustration boils over with his “selfish” little brother Noel, a simple misunderstanding turns into a hilarious fishy fiasco. Enter Mark, a blustering fish merchant who’s convinced he was summoned to deliver shellfish—not settle sibling squabbles! What follows is a lighthearted yet thought-provoking mix-up that gets everyone thinking: What does it really mean to be selfish? And how do we learn to be selfless?
Designed as a sermon opener, Selfish Shellfish sets the stage for deeper reflection without giving away the answers. It’s perfect for drawing your audience in with humor while paving the way for a meaningful message.

Fran, Jimmy, Noel, and Becky enter the stage.
Noel and Jimmy are staring at each other, angry.
Fran:
OK, Jimmy, so why are you so upset with Noel?
Jimmy:
Look Fran, you have no idea how frustrating it is having to put up with a little brother like Noel!
Noel reacts with sad shock.
Becky:
Awww Jimmy, I think Noel is… well… kinda cute… kinda.
Noel smiles triumphantly.
Jimmy:
Cute?… You think this little monster is cute?
Noel reacts, shocked.
Becky:
Well… I mean… yeah… cute… like… kinda…
Noel smiles happily.
Jimmy:
Yeah sure, in the same way Jack the Ripper is cute!
Noel reacts, hurt.
Fran:
That is so cruel, Jimmy. What has Noel ever done to deserve this?
Jimmy (angry):
What has he done?… What has he done, you ask?
Fran:
Yes, what, exactly?
Jimmy:
He… is… selfish!
Noel throws up his hands in shock.
Fran:
Selfish?
Jimmy (each statement louder):
Yes… selfish… Selfish!… Selfish!… Selfish, selfish, selfish!
Mark enters, carrying a big sack.
Mark:
Hold your horses, will ya?… I am comin’ fast as I can!
Jimmy:
Who are you, and why are you here?
Mark:
I am Mark the fish merchant, and you called.
Fran:
Fish merchant?… Who called for a fish merchant?
Mark:
You guys… (points at Jimmy)… You was screamin’ for shellfish!
Jimmy:
I said… selfish!
Mark:
Am not either! I supply my shellfish all over town, so don’cha go around tellin’ folks that Mark the Fish Merchant is selfish about his shellfish!
Noel giggles silently.
