A Heavenly Broadcast: The Battle for a Soul

Step inside the ultimate TV station—broadcasting straight from heaven! S.K.Y. TV delivers a front-row seat to the ongoing battle between good and evil, as the forces of light and darkness compete for the soul of Robert Harvey. Blending reality with celestial satire, this one-act play shifts between heartfelt moments and comedic allegory, showing how heaven rejoices in our victories and grieves in our struggles. With themes of soul-winning, spiritual warfare, and divine perspective, A Heavenly Broadcast challenges us to see our lives through the lens of eternity.

Heavenly Broadcast: A Spiritual Battle

Scene 1: Earthly Struggles

(Enter Sarah and Flo on the ‘earth’ half of the stage.)

Sarah: Anyway, Flo, I really need you to pray for me, because my brother and I—we just don’t get along when it comes to spiritual things. Every time I try to talk to him about Jesus and church, he ends up getting sarcastic, and I end up getting mad. So at most of these family get-togethers, I just keep quiet about church and everything, just to keep peace in the family.

Flo: Look, Sarah, I’ve been praying for you all this week, and I’m going to keep on praying that things will be different. God wants to speak through you to your brother and to your whole family. He wants to make you a soul-winner. When are you seeing them again?

Sarah: It’s tonight, at my brother’s house.

Flo: I’ll mention it to Mrs. Warren so she can pray for you, too.

Sarah: Oh, would you? Mrs. Warren’s a real prayer warrior. I wish I were like her. I feel like God hardly notices my prayers.

Flo: Well, that’s not true, Sarah. All of heaven is watching you when you pray, or any time you do anything for God. Haven’t you read the book of Hebrews?

Sarah: Not lately. Does it say heaven is watching us?

Flo: Sure, let me look it up. First off, the eleventh chapter of Hebrews talks about all those Old Testament heroes of the faith, and then the twelfth chapter says that those guys are all watching us from heaven, like spectators in a grandstand. See? We’re like athletes running a race, and they’re the spectators. Here: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” See? And look what it says: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith….” Jesus is our captain, and if we keep our eyes on Him, we’ll succeed.

Sarah: Well, I haven’t succeeded with my brother.

Flo: Let’s pray. God, I pray that you would help Sarah to not fight with her brother, but to fix her eyes on Jesus, so that she can love her brother no matter what he does, and he’ll see the love and forgiveness of Jesus in her. Make Sarah a soul-winner to her family. And when she’s at this get-together tonight, help her to remember that all of heaven is watching her. Please show her that her prayers make a difference, because You’re watching her, and Jesus is leading her.

Sarah: Amen. Well, I have to go now.

Flo: I’ll be praying for you tonight, Sarah. And I’ll tell Mrs. Warren to pray.

Sarah: Thanks, Flo. I wonder what that means about those people watching us. They can’t really all be sitting in a grandstand watching us.

Flo: Maybe they’re watching us on TV.

(They laugh and exit.)

Scene 2: On the Air

(Theme music. Mike and Gab are seated behind a desk, or they could enter during the following announcement.)

Announcer: (offstage) This is S.K.Y. TV, broadcasting around the clock, seven days a week for all eternity, bringing you all the news on earth. And now we take you to World Watch Stadium for the big upcoming contest between the Forces of Good and the Forces of Evil. Here are our game announcers, Michael and Gabrielle.

(Fade music. Background sound of a cheering crowd is heard throughout the following dialogue.)

Mike: Hi, all you saints! Well, in just a little while now, we’ll be witnessing the big playoff game between soul-winner Sarah Harvey and the forces of darkness. The seats here at World Watch Stadium are already filled with clouds of people who don’t want to miss a close-up look at the coming showdown.

Gab: That’s right, Mike. Everybody wants to see which side will win the soul of Robert Harvey.

Mike: As we know, the demons have held onto that trophy for several seasons now, but a huge crowd of dedicated fans here today are hoping to see a victory for Sarah Harvey and the forces of heaven.

Gab: Right, in fact, most of these fans were here hours ago. This is the game of the season, and everybody wants to get a good view.

Mike: Well, they’ll get a good view, Gab, because World Watch Stadium is a portal to any location on earth. But our viewers at home will get a good view, too.

Gab: Yes, you folks at home won’t be missing anything, because S.K.Y. is bringing you all the action in full color and three dimensions, right in the privacy of your mansions.

Mike: Right, Gab. And just to give our viewers a closer look at World Watch Stadium, our camera is now zooming in on some of the celebrities in the stands. There’s John the Baptist eating popcorn.

Gab: He likes it with locusts and wild honey.

Mike: And there we see James and John waving at us. John is saying, “Hi, Mom.”

Gab: Hey, Moses is waving his rod again.

(They shout as they duck behind the desk. Pause. They slowly stick their heads up.)

Gab: Be careful, Moses.

Mike: Last time he raised his rod in World Watch Stadium, he nearly parted the Pacific Ocean.

Gab: There could’ve been tidal waves all along the coast of Asia and North America…

Mike: Well, it looks like no harm was done this time, Gab. So I think it’s time now to take our viewers down to the field. Gab?

Gab: Right. All right.

(Enter reporter with a microphone on ‘earth’, and Mel in a t-shirt and baseball cap. They get ready for a camera to cut to them.)

Gab: We’re going to join our crew down on the playing field now, where our field reporter is talking to one of the key players on Sarah’s team.

(Fade crowd sounds.)

Reporter: Thanks, Gab. I’m down here on the planet with Sarah’s head guardian angel, Mel, and he’s got some comments for us about the upcoming event.

Mel: I just want to say that Sarah’s been having a great season so far, and it’s been swell working with her. In the last couple of months, she’s hardly missed a single daily devotion time. She’s been praying hard, and her game has really improved. I think she’s about due for a big win over the forces of darkness.

Reporter: We hope you’re right, Mel. Well, back to you, Michael and Gabrielle. (Exit with Mel.)

Mike: We hope you’re right, too, Mel. But now we’re going to take a retrospective look at some of Sarah’s past performances, so that our newer viewers can learn something about her background.

Gab: Yes, and then they’ll know what this game is really all about.

Mike: That’s right. We’re going to see what’s at stake here today. So first off, we have some old footage taken several years ago of the first time Sarah ever tried to tell her brother about Jesus…
