Run To Tell What

This humorous skit is about understanding God's vision before acting on it, based on Habakkuk 2:2:

“Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

Teena, full of energy and enthusiasm, rushes onto the stage and collides with Charlie and Sam, knocking them over. She excitedly announces that she received a vision from the Bible and is now “running with it.” However, when pressed for details, she realizes she doesn’t actually understand the vision—she only remembers that it told her to “run.”

As Charlie and Sam try to help her, it becomes clear that Teena didn’t take the time to read the full context of the verse. She forgot her Bible at home, assumes all Bibles must be green like hers, and even believes a Bible isn’t real unless it has maps. She struggles to remember where she read the verse, but with Charlie’s Bible search program, they finally locate Habakkuk 2:2.

Dreams and visions are wonderful as long as we have the means and the knowledge to carry it to others.

(Teena rushes in, collides with Charlie and Sam, causing a minor stumble.)

Teena: Ooops! Sorry, knocked you down, didn’t I? Here, let me help you up. There, now—hardly even real bad hurt, are you? And you were worried!

Sam: Hey, what are you doing? If you don’t slow down, someone’s gonna get hurt!

Charlie: Yeah, and it feels like it’s gonna be me! Why are you running around like this, anyway?

Teena: Well, you see, I was reading my Bible, and I got this vision, and now I’ve gotta run with it!

Charlie: Vision? What are you talking about? The only vision I see is you being an accident waiting to happen!

Sam: What vision is this?

Teena: From the Bible.

Charlie: Hate to be the one to break it to you, Teena, but there are actually a lot of visions in the Bible.

Teena: A lot? There is? Oh, I didn’t know that. I thought—well, I just expected that there was (emphasizing) a vision. So now… what do I do?

Sam: Maybe start by going back to the Bible and checking where you read about the vision.

Teena: You know, that’s an excellent idea.

Sam: So… where’s your Bible?

Teena: My Bible?

Charlie: Yes. Where did you put your Bible?

(Teena hesitates, looking around sheepishly.)

Teena: Well… I left it at home. What do you think I would do? I mean, I was afraid it might slow me down when I was running with my vision. Hey, have you guys got a Bible?

Sam: Here, you can use mine.

Teena: You’re sure this is a Bible?

Sam: Well, of course it’s a Bible! What makes you think it isn’t?

Teena: Well… it’s just that this book isn’t green. My Bible is green. I just naturally thought that all Bibles were green.

Charlie: Books don’t have to be green to be a Bible.

Teena: They don’t? Are you sure?

Charlie: Of course I’m sure! Bibles can be any color. And look—what does it say on the cover? (slowly spelling out) H-o-l-y B-i-b-l-e. Get it?

Teena: I’ll be! It does say that! Maybe it’s in a different language?

Sam: No, it’s in English, just like yours. Now, open up the Bible. In which book did you find this vision?

Teena: You’re playing with me now! I told you—it was in the Bible. My green Bible.

Charlie: Yes, we know you found the vision in your Bible, but in which book of the Bible? You know, like… was it in Matthew? Mark? Luke? John? Revelation? Maybe Exodus? Psalms?

Teena: You mean all those are in the Bible?!

(Charlie and Sam exchange glances as the scene ends.)
