In Matthew 9:17-38 Jesus saw that the "harvest" was plentiful and that there were not enough workers. But he didn’t tell the disciples to “go bring in the harvest”. Jesus advised to 1) pray, and 2) to ask that God provide the workers. Harvesting means reaching out with an outward focus.

(Val and Terry come on stage, visibly exhausted.)
VAL: Wow, I am like completely wore out!
TERRY: Me too! But man, that is some harvest out there, huh? Must be like a hundred and fifty bushels an acre!
VAL: The Boss, Mr. Lord—he’s gonna be some pleased with the bins full of fine, clean grain off the back forty.
TERRY: Will be for sure. But it's sad to see that we didn’t get to do but just the one field today.
VAL: Yes, it surely is. I noticed some of the crop over on the Maxwell farm is way too ripe—some of the grain is shelling out, falling on the ground, being lost.
TERRY: Well, what can a guy do? I mean, there are only so many hours in the day, and last I noticed, we only have two hands.
VAL: I know. But Mr. Lord, he’s gonna be back home soon, and before he left, he gave us instructions about the harvest.
TERRY: Can’t remember—what was it he said?
VAL: Can't recall exactly… something about what an awesome harvest there was out there… I guess it was just that we were responsible for the harvest.
TERRY: Goodness knows we have done our best… never taken a minute off.
VAL: For true. We just keep reaching out and gathering in the harvest—that’s our job, I reckon.
TERRY: Ahh, here comes Mr. Lord now.
Lord comes on stage, excited
Lord: Hi Val, Terry, how's the harvest coming?
Val: Awesome is what! The grade is great, high protein wheat, yield is best I ever did see!
Terry: We finished up the back forty today.
