Patience© is a delightful, fast-paced skit that uses a simple Scrabble game to teach a timeless truth: Patience is more than waiting — it’s a vital part of Christian living!
As Tony turns an ordinary game into an over-the-top sports broadcast (complete with commentary, injury reports, and imaginary fans), his friends Terry and Gene keep the game — and the message — on track. Each new word on the board highlights a different aspect of patience: endurance, forbearance, humility, tolerance, persistence, steadfastness, longsuffering.
The result? A funny, relatable, and thought-provoking piece your audience will enjoy — and remember. Perfect for services, youth groups, or any time you want to spotlight the importance of Christian character in a lighthearted way.

TONY:
Alright! Is everyone ready for the Run for the Roses, Super Bowl 6000, the Stanley Cup, the...
TERRY:
Tony! May I remind you that it’s only a Scrabble game, not the Tournament of Champions!
GENE:
Right on, Terry! Just a friendly game, that’s all. I don’t figure what you are gettin' all worked up about, Tony! Now then, are we ready to play?
[TONY looks out into the audience, assumes announcer’s voice.]
TONY:
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! The day you have all been waiting for has finally arrived! I can just feel the tension building as these two Scrabble masters, champions in their own circles, are here today to...
TERRY:
Tony! What colour is the sky in your world? And who are you talking to out there? It’s just Gene and me here to play a fun game of Scrabble and here you are making like it’s...
[TONY looks out into the audience again.]
TONY:
Did you see that clever move from Terry, trying to throw his opponent off with a cavalier, carefree foray. But will Gene be taken in by this rouse? That, ladies and gentlemen, is the question of the moment!
GENE:
...the question of the...? You know, Tony, I have seen you do some hair-brained things, but this one tops them all. Now cool it! Come on, Terry, let’s get set up.
TONY:
Now here, as the competitors prepare for this, the crucial test to see who shall wear the crown, carry the banner, float the flag...
GENE:
Tony! What in the world are you talking a... ( pauses ) ...“float the flag?”
TONY:
Had a ring to it, didn’t it? ( clears throat ) Now then, time for the pre-game injury report. In the last game Terry suffered a nasty sliver from one of the Scrabble tiles, but... ( holds up Terry’s finger ) ...a close examination has proven this outstanding player fit and ready to play!
[TERRY and GENE look at TONY in total disbelief, shaking their heads.]
TONY:
Now then, to begin the game — the referee, that’s me — will set the first word, and the players will then play off, beginning with Gene, who drew the high tile in the preliminary. And the first word which I have selected is... PATIENCE. Now then, players, have a good, good game!
TERRY:
Too bad you had to go home, Tony. We will miss your joyous countenance here. Yeh, right!
TONY:
Nonsense! I should not miss this match for all the... well, I simply wouldn’t miss it, that’s all! Besides, rules demand that a competent referee be on hand at all times.
GENE:
And one wasn’t available, so you volunteered, right?
TONY:
Droll! Droll! Now, let the games begin! Gene, your first word.
