Mostest Importantest

Two children (or childlike characters) argue over what is most important in church. Their innocence, simplicity, and playful debate reflect the kind of faith and humility Jesus encourages. It also subtly emphasizes that both worship and mission work are important parts of faith, just as Jesus calls us to love God and spread His message.

Two actors or puppets. Suggest adult boy and girl play the roles, be dressed up as very small children, perhaps playing in a large sandbox.

Run-time:  5-6 minutes, depending on the comedic timing

Scene: A large sandbox. Billy and Bobby are playing.

Billy: What are you going to be when you grow up?

Bobby: A missionary, 'cause my daddy says that’s the mostest importantest thing in the church.

Billy: No it isn’t!

Bobby: Is too!

Billy: Is not!

Bobby: Is!

Billy: Isn’t!

Bobby: What is then?

Billy: My daddy says that worship is the mostest importantest thing in the church.

Bobby: Oh yeh, lot your daddy knows!

Billy: Yeh?

Bobby: Oh yeh!

Billy: Yeh?

Bobby: OK, well why’s there missionaries then, huh?

Billy: My daddy says it’s 'cause people don’t worship God, so we hafta have missionaries.

Bobby: So, then, missionaries are important!

Billy: Well sure, they’re real important!

Bobby: So my daddy was right after all! Nah-nah, nah-nah, boo-boo!

Billy: No way! Your daddy said missionaries was the mostest importantest, but my daddy was right—he said worship was the mostest importantest!

Bobby: Your daddy is kinda smart, I guess. What are you gonna be when you grow up?

Billy: I’m gonna be a missionary.

Bobby: You are? Just like me? Wow! Where are you gonna go to be a missionary?

Billy: Not sure. Somewhere scary. Maybe Africa. Or Ontario. (Insert a local state or region for humor.)

Bobby: Maybe I could go with you?

Billy: Do you like scary places?

Bobby: Yep! Once I even went to a hockey game!

Billy: Wow! That’s scary!

Bobby: Could I go with you to be a missionary then?

Billy: Well, I’d hafta check with my mom. We’d prob’ly hafta get married.

Bobby: Married? D’ya really think so?
