A faith-filled comedy about finding joy in the most unlikely places… like after aerobics.
Connie and Barbara are tired, grumpy, and thoroughly unimpressed with life—or their latest workout. But when the endlessly cheerful Matilda bounces into the locker room, they’re forced to confront something even more exhausting than aerobics: joy. Real, contagious, God-given joy.
As the women dodge Matilda’s sunny disposition with sarcasm and excuses, they soon realize that what they’ve been avoiding might be exactly what they need.
This light-hearted script invites laughter while gently opening the door to a deeper truth—joy isn’t a personality trait, it’s a gift from God.

Joy That Runneth Out the Window© – Sample Script
Setting:
A simple gym locker room. Two chairs together serve as a bench. Connie and Barbara are dressed in sweats with towels around their necks.
(Lights up. Barbara is sitting on the bench. Connie stands beside her. Both are catching their breath after aerobics class. They talk to each other but barely listen.)
BARBARA:
Now tell me, Connie, wasn't that the most brutal aerobics class we've had so far?
CONNIE:
I just can't figure it out, Barbara! I've been knocking myself out at this class for three weeks now and I haven't lost a pound!
BARBARA:
I think that instructor has it out for me. I know she's 87 years old, but that doesn't mean that she can't have a torturing side!
CONNIE (distraught):
Not one pound! Maybe I should look into that all-liquid tofu diet.
(thinking)
No, that probably wouldn't work either.
(Matilda “bounces” in, full of energy.)
MATILDA:
Hi gals! Wow, that was some class! No way you could get bored in there!
(Connie and Barbara look at Matilda in disgust. Matilda steps away to towel off. Connie and Barbara resume talking quietly.)
BARBARA:
Isn't she that happy lady in our class?
CONNIE:
I think so. Although I've never seen her face before, she's always at the front of the class. I've only seen her perky little head.
BARBARA (very serious, in a low tone):
All I know is that kind of happiness just isn't normal. I've seen it before, and all that cheeriness is nothing but trouble!
CONNIE:
I suggest we steer clear of her!
(Barbara and Connie begin toweling off and fixing their hair, trying to ignore Matilda. Matilda, meanwhile, tries to start a conversation.)
MATILDA:
So, like I was saying. That class sure is full of life, huh?!
(no response)
Would either of you like a cup of coffee? I know we’re supposed to stay away from caffeine, but if it weren’t for us, Juan Valdez would be out of a job!
BARBARA:
No, I . . . uh . . . we . . . that is, we can’t!
(turns away, hoping Matilda will take the hint)
MATILDA:
You sure? We could walk to the coffee shop. It's a great way to break in new shoes.
(looks down at Connie’s shoes)
Why, those shoes look brand new! How do you keep them from looking like you’ve hardly exercised in them at all?!
