John The Strange Desert Man

John the Baptist, the Baptizer, was an . . unique . . individual.
Not really the kind of guy you would like for your daughter to bring home to meet Mom and Dad. But God had a special purpose for John, and it wasn’t just the baptizing, it was the preparing the way. John didn’t let anything stand between him and the fulfilling of the purpose for which he was intended.
God is still calling for “John the Baptizers” today.

Hey. . .
Hot one today, hey?
Could use some rain for sure. . . Cool things down . . . Would be good.
(looks up, shields eyes)
Not gonna happen, looks like. . . Not a cloud in the sky.
This land it’s gonna be like a desert, if this keeps up.
Some folks seem to like the hot weather, they like wandering the desert.
Me . . not so much.
Reminds me of John. . .
In the Bible.
John the Baptizer they called him.
John he was a . . . might as well say it . . . He was a strange man.
A strange desert man.
Some would call a kook. Different. Socially a misfit.
Lived at the corner of Wilderness Street and Desert Avenue. . . . I’m guessing on the exact address.
But for sure a wanderer of the wasteland, guess you could call him.
Dressed strange too. . .
Dressed in clothing made of camel hair; a leather belt around his waist.
And don’t get me started on his eating habits!
Where us guys would be off to McDonalds, John dined on McLocusts dipped in honey.
Yumm is all I can say!
One thing you gotta say about John . . he wasn’t real big on PR with the in-crowd.
Some of the guys from the temple came out to question John. He called them a brood of vipers!
Not the best way to win friends and influence people for sure.
But see, John was raging against sin and trumpeting for Jesus. Introducing the Messiah.
