It's Just Sand

What is important in life? Is God the Rock in your life. The centre, the priority? In this monologue a demonstration is used. It is shown that even though the jar is full, the sand will filter through the rocks. Just like God is in our lives.

• a large glass jar
• little stones 2"
• small pebbles
• sand

Costumes: standard

Sample of script:

Ask the audience if the jar is full. They will obviously agree that it is.
Take a handful of pebbles and pour them into the jar, shake the jar lightly. The pebbles will roll into the open areas between the rocks.
Ask the audience again if the jar is full. They again will agree it is.
Now take sand and pour it into the jar.
Say, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things - your relationship with God, your family - anything that is so important to you that if it were lost, you would be devastated. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life."
