Sample Script

(Tom, Cindy, Nancy, Carla, and Sue enter stage talking. Pete and Dina enter from the opposite side, staying back from the crowd, listening and reacting to what is said. The others are unaware that Pete and Dina are listening.)

Tom: I think that’s a great idea! We should have a year-end AWANA party!

Nancy: Yeah! That sounds like fun!

Cindy: We could invite all the AWANA kids as well as their families!

Sue: This would be a great opportunity to show everyone what we’ve learned!

Nancy: Do you think we should maybe practice some of the verses we’ve learned?

Sue: Yeah, like 3 Timothy 18:12.

Carla: Uhhhhh, I hate to break this to you, Sue, but there is no 3 Timothy in the Bible.

Sue: Exactly my point.

Tom: Is this kinda one of those points that grows on you after a while? I missed your point kinda bad.

Sue: Well, if 3 Timothy was in the Bible, anyone could just go look it up. Takes talent to find what’s not there.

Cindy: Soooooo anyhow, lots of weather goin’ around lately, huh?

Carla: I think maybe we stick to the Bible verses that are actually in the Bible, okay?

Nancy: And do our very best to get them really right!

Tom: Would that ever impress the grown-ups!

Carla: They said we never listened! This will show ‘em!

Sue: You know what would be really cool?

Cindy: What?

Sue: It would be great if Polly Parker came to our wrap-up night!

Nancy: Polly Parker? I thought you and Polly weren’t exactly best friends?

Sue: I beg your pardon? Naw! Polly and I are the best of buds! That’s why I specially want her to be sure to be a part of this most joyous and glorious evening!

Carla: Wait a minute! Is that really the reason that you want Polly at the AWANA night?

Sue: Well, mostly, likely, mostly. That and the fact that I can show (intense) Miss-I-Know-Every-Awana-Verse-in-the-World that she isn’t the only one that can remember a few words!

Tom: That sounds like true friendship to me!

Nancy: All I know is that I want to be sure to have fun! After a year of hard work, I really deserve a break from that tough schedule!

Cindy: I hear ya! Put those books away!

Carla: I wonder if there will be trophies?

Sue: Trophies? For what?

Carla: Well, my older sister who graduated from AWANA last year told me when you learn your verses and complete your sections, you could get a trophy!

Tom: A trophy would be way cool!

Carla: Yeah! That’s what’s been keeping me going all year! Every time I felt like not doing my verses, I just thought about how great that big, shiny trophy would look on my shelf!

Nancy: You’ve got this all planned out!

Carla: Yep! Right next to my second-place prize for the Little Miss Beautiful Hair Contest 2001!

Cindy: Only second place?

Carla (upset): Yeah. Mindy Matthews got an inside tip that the judges go for quantity of hairspray rather than quality of coloring. And she took first place just because of that!

Tom: So, anyway, back to this wrap-up night!

Nancy: I think we should go talk to Mrs. Friesen about this!

(Everyone turns to go, but Pete and Dina intercept them before they can leave the stage.)

Carla: Oh, hi Pete! Hi, Dina!

Sue: We were just talking about planning an AWANA wrap-up night!

Dina: Yeah, we kind of overheard your excitement.

Tom: Great! Then you guys can come too, can’t you?

Pete: Well, I guess it sounds good to me! I just want to be real sure I’m going for the right reasons.

Cindy: What do you mean, the right reasons?

Nancy: I thought we all had the same reasons – to show everyone how much we’ve learned!

Carla: Makes sense to me!

Sue: OK, smarty! What’s John 3:16?

Nancy: I know that one! Approved workmen are not ashamed.

Tom: Likely more like, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
