Sample of Script
(A choir practice has just ended. The actor waves toward stage left as others leave.)
Actor (waving): Good-bye! Bye! See you next week! Yes, Mary-Ann, that was a great practice!
(Turns to the audience.)
Actor: Whew! That was quite an evening! Even my ears are sore! (smiling) No, it wasn’t quite that bad! Choir practice is always challenging, if nothing else!
Everyone was really very good tonight! Well... I mean, the tenors could use some work, and the sopranos have to put in more effort on that high E. And then there’s the altos—if we could just get them to come in on time, things would go a lot smoother! Other than that, things are really coming together!
(Pauses, thinking to himself.)
Actor: We’ve only got three weeks until our big outreach concert, so we’re going to have to pull together a lot more before then.
I wonder if I should meet with each section separately so they can work on their specific parts. That way, they won’t have to sit through another section’s rehearsal—no danger of anyone accidentally singing someone else’s part!
Each of them has a unique purpose in the choir. Each was placed in this group for a reason. It would be a shame if they didn’t get the chance to use their gifts the way they were meant to.
