Norman:
Beautiful, gorgeous morning, isn’t it! Hey, you know, you will just never believe what happened! My boss—I told you about him before, right? Anyhow, he walks in, says to me, “Hey, Norman, I am off on a business trip. Here’s what I want from you. I got these five projects for you to look after while I am gone. Now, listen, I am entrusting you to do what’s best, understand?” Hey, gotta tell you, my boss seems like he has been trusting me more and more all the time. But leaving me with five projects! Wow! I mean, this is major! But guess what? Even though I know that this is a big responsibility, I know I can handle it. How do I know, you ask?
My boss said he was “entrusting” me. Means he’s delegating, handing over to me. I mean, that’s what entrusting is all about, understand? So, it’s like I am, what you might say, “standing in the gap,” filling in for the boss while he’s away. Big job? Sure is! But, see, I know that the boss believes I can carry it off. And that means I have confidence too, knowing I will do the job.
(Norman goes to walk away, stops, looks back)
You know, I can just see it all now—boss comes back home, walks into my office, says, “Well, my man! Carried it off super, just like I knew you would! Tell you what, I got a really big job for you coming right up!” Yes, and the boss will say, “You know what? I am mighty pleased with you. And I can see you are pleased with yourself, my man! Hey, that’s the way it oughta be around here!”
(Norman shakes head, chuckles)
Like I said, beautiful, gorgeous morning, isn’t it?
(Norman walks off stage)
Rebecca:
Ohhhhhhh man! Now that was some meeting I had with the boss this morning, I’m gonna tell you! My boss called me into his office, says to me, “Rebecca, I am going on a business trip. Can you do something for me?”
I was kind of trembling in my shoes. After all, I am still kind of new around here. I mean, it’s not like I am Norman. The boss always relies on Norman. Norman is so in charge, seems like, always does the right thing. Well, no, it’s not that Norman gets favoritism, not that at all—I mean, Norman has proven himself over and over. And Norman has helped me out lots, given me great advice.
Anyhow, the boss says, “Rebecca, I have two projects for you to look after while I am gone. I am entrusting these two projects to you. Look after them for me, please.”
