Sometimes seems like society is getting more and more scary everyday. People's goals and aspirations seem to be changing. Now all of a sudden we value things more than people. We sit back and watch awful events take place in the lives of our neighbour down the street, and we “ooh” and “ahh” and make sure they, (sarcastically), know we care. But as soon as we turn around, we're right back into our great race for the most things.
(Smiling.) Yeah, I've had quite the day, you probably can already tell. It was Promotion day today at the office. Everyone knew that Hanson up in marketing would get promoted. It was a done deal. But what we hadn't figured on was him turning the promotion down. No one could believe it! I ran into him in the elevator after work and I had to ask him why he would turn down such a great promotion. Do you know what he said? He told me that all he had ever wanted was a nameplate with his name on it. And since he already had it, why would he want the promotion?
It hit me right then and there - not the fact that Hanson turned down a great promotion, but the fact that people can get so consumed with attaining what they think are their goals in life, that they lose sight of where they are going.
