The skit is a humorous take on Jesus calling His disciples to become “fishers of men” (based on Matthew 4:19). The misunderstanding begins when Peter misinterprets Jesus’ metaphor and brings along a sheep, thinking they are also supposed to "fish for sheep" since people are often compared to sheep in the Bible.
Cast Members: 5
- Jesus – Central figure, delivering the main lesson with warmth and patience.
- Peter – The disciple holding the sheep (or interacting with it), driving the comedic misunderstanding.
- Andrew – Another disciple, adds humor with questions about "fishing for people."
- John – A disciple providing witty or reflective commentary.
- The Sheep – Either a child dressed as a sheep or a cardboard cutout with some interaction (lines or gestures).
Optional Cast Additions:
- Narrator – If you want to include a narrator to introduce the skit or tie it to scripture at the beginning or end.
- Additional Disciples – You can add 1-2 more disciples for non-speaking or small lines to make the group feel larger.
- Shepherd Prop – An extra character or someone silently guiding the sheep if using a child actor.
Run-Time: 3–5 minutes: This script is short and punchy, with natural pauses for laughter. The run time depends on comedic timing, how much actors interact with the audience (if at all), and the pacing of the lines.
Props:

Biblical Reference: Matthew 4:18-20 and Mark 1:16-18, where Jesus calls the first disciples and tells them He will make them "fishers of men."
Script
[Jesus stands center stage with an earnest expression. A few disciples gather around him, one of them holding a sheep (cardboard or child actor).]
Jesus: (smiling warmly) Friends, you’ve worked hard as fishermen. But now, I’ve called you to be fishers of men.
Peter: (tilting head) Fishers of men, Lord? You mean... catching people like we catch fish?
Jesus: (nodding patiently) Exactly, Peter. Not with nets, of course, but with love, truth, and the message of God’s kingdom.
Andrew: (scratching head, holding a toy fish) Love and truth? That’s way easier than baiting a hook.
John: (laughs) Speak for yourself. I still don’t know what kind of bait “Love” is!
Peter: (holding up the sheep or gesturing to the kid sheep) Uh, Lord, quick question… what about sheep? Are we supposed to fish for sheep, too?
Jesus: (pauses, raising an eyebrow) Fish for sheep? Peter, why do you have a sheep?
Sheep: Baaaa!
Peter: (looking at the sheep nervously) Well, you said, “fishers of men.” But then I thought… sheep are kind of like people, right? I mean, we’re always called “the flock.” So… (awkwardly waves at the sheep) ta-da?
Sheep: (crossing arms or baa-ing sassily) Really, Peter? I’m just standing here, minding my business, staring aimlessly. Do you think I’m part of this?
Jesus: (chuckling) Peter, Peter… I meant men, as in people. Not actual sheep. Though, to be fair, I do call people my sheep sometimes.
Peter: (sighs in relief) Oh, good! Because this sheep doesn’t like fishing at all.
Sheep: (nodding emphatically) Nope. Not a fan of water.
Andrew: (picking up a fishing net)...
