Three women at a bus stop debate eternity. Even though the arguments are from the heart in this comedy, only one outcome can be believed. Join Nancy as she talks to others about eternal life and how to achieve it.
Sample of script:
3 women waiting for the bus on a cold morning.
- Nancy - a Christian woman, late 30's
- Roberta - a scientist at the university, middle aged
- Bev - a struggling shop owner, early to late twenties
One at a time, the three women gather at the bus stop. Nancy smiles to each woman; Bev seems too stressed out to realize there is anyone else there; Roberta acknowledges the other women only by carefully plotting where she should stand in proportion to the other women so she can be the first one on the bus when it comes.
Nancy (trying to strike up a conversation) Well, sure feels like winter is coming, doesn't it? (No verbal response from others,
Roberta coldly glares at Nancy while Bev keeps checking her watch, obviously worried that the bus will be late.)
(Nancy is determined to get a conversation going.) Yep, I bet winter is just around the corner. I heard we're going to have to put up with it for a while this year. Yes sir, could last a long time.
Roberta (looking very pointedly at Nancy) Winter couldn't possibly last as long as this wait for the bus. (Very sharply, still staring at Nancy) It seems to just drag on and on and on!!!
Bev (frustrated) It sure does feel like we've been waiting here an eternity!
Roberta That's it - this wait seems like an eternity!
Nancy Eternity? Oh, no! I'm sure you realize that eternity is much longer!
Roberta How could anything be longer than this?
Nancy (can't believe the ladies don't know anything about eternity) Well, eternal life? Life everlasting? Haven't you heard about eternity before?
Roberta Nonsense! Just another crazy religious theory, I suppose.
Bev Crazy or not! All I know about eternity is that it has seemed like an eternity since my shop has pulled a profit! If I could just get it off the ground and running smoothly, then I could die a happy woman.
Nancy You don't really mean that do you? You're only living to make your store a success? Hard work and dedication is great for now, but what about planning for the future?
Bev Well, my grandmother bought me a savings bond that I can get when I'm 65. Why would I have to worry about anything else?
Nancy What about planning for your eternal future? Haven't you considered planning for heaven?
Roberta This is getting ridiculous! I am a very well-educated scientist and everyone knows that once life ends, only death results. There is no eternity or after life!
Nancy (concerned) Obviously no one has told you about the choice you have for eternity. You see, there is an eternal life for everyone. It's just up to each person where they spend it.
Bev Look, I have far too many worries and stresses to deal with right now as it is. I don't need to waste my time making more choices that won't affect me until I am old and gray.
Roberta I concur. I have carefully planned and calculated out my life until the age of 83.
Nancy (puzzled) Why until 83?
