Downtown Ministering

Ministry and evangelism opportunities all over, including downtown areas of our own cities.

Urban evangelization is becoming more important as not only are there the needs of the underprivileged and hurting but there are also new initiatives bringing more people to live in our downtown core areas. And, like everywhere else, God’s word needs to be heard.

Sam is onstage reading a magazine, after a few seconds Tracy comes onstage

Tracy:  Hey Sam, whatcha doin’?

Sam:  Hey Tracy, just reading up a bit.

Tracy:  Readin’ huh? . . . Whatcha readin’?

Tracy takes magazine out of Sam’s hands, reads

Tracy:    “Effective Missions.” . . .  Great, so look at you, you are goin’ on missions! . . . Wow, awesome, where ya goin’ to? . . . Africa? . . . Europe? . . Maybe Hawaii?

Sam:    Actually, urban evangelization.

Tracy:  OK, cool, but what big city you goin’ to? . . Paris? . .  London? . .  Moscow?

Sam:  Actually Tracy, I am going to be doing urban ministry downtown, right here in (name of city).

Tracy:  You mean . .  here . . as in . .  here?

Sam: I am really excited about it.

Tracy: Oh for sure, like I am sure you are excited, ministry and all . . . But here at home?

Sam:  People right here in (name of city) need to hear the word of God. Downtown there are a lot of needs . . alcoholism, drug abuse, prostitution, homelessness.

Tracy:  Exactly Sam, so why would you want to go there?

Sam:  I don’t understand Tracy, there is a great need, why wouldn’t I go?

Tracy: Maybe you don’t fully understand . . . That’s no picnic down there, there’s bad stuff goin’ down!
