Gossip. How talking about someone always hurts relationships and eventually hurts the perpetrator as well.
Cast: 3, any age, male or female
Set, costumes, sound, lighting: standard
Props: cell phone
Time: 10 minutes
Script:
Gerry and Marty are standing on stage, whispering behind their hand, as though trying to keep others from hearing. Tracy comes on stage
Tracy: Hey Gerry, Marty, how’s things?
Gerry and Marty jump as if they are doing something wrong, gesture to each other “shhhh”
Gerry: Oh, nothing, nothing, nothing at all!
Marty: Nope, not doing nothing, not talking, not talking about anyone.
Gerry: Weather.
Tracy: Weather?
Gerry: Yep, weather.
Tracy: Weather as in . . .?
Marty: We were talking about the weather. That’s all we were doing.
Gerry: Exactly! Marty and me was just standing here, talking about the weather is all we were doing. Talking about how nice the hot weather was that we have been having.
Marty: Man, doncha just love waking up, seeing the sun beating down, another great new hot, sunny day.
Tracy: OKayyyyyyyy. Not sure where you guys have been, but it has been raining last eight days straight, sun has never even once peeked through the clouds, not once.
Gerry: Silly me! I meant to say, lovely wet weather is what I meant to say. Yep, that’s it . . . gorgeous downpour wet weather!
Marty: Great for the farmers! That’s what Gerry and I were discussing when you came along. Yeppers, no secrets nor dirty laundry being told around here by myself and Gerry.
Gerry: No chance, I mean Marty and me, we hate gossip!
Marty: Ain’t that the truth, I mean, folks that gossip, why they simply are not on our list of friends.
Tracy: Hey, well I guess that’s good then. Hey, seeing’s how you guys are busy, got all that weather to talk about, me, I’m just gonna walk on down the road is what I am gonna do. So, anyhow, have a good day, enjoy the weather talk and all.
Tracy starts to move off stage, Gerry and Marty look at each other
Gerry: OK, fine, hold up there Tracy, guess you have a right to know what’s going on right under your very nose.
Marty: I’m with you, Gerry, Tracy has a right to know.
Tracy: Know?
Gerry: Exactly. Why should you be left outta the loop?
Tracy: The loop?
Marty: Preeeeciselllyyyyy!
Tracy: I hate to break this to you guys but I have not clue one what you guys are talking about! But hey, I really do need to get going so . . .
Gerry: Mary Cameron.
Tracy, looks around: Mary Cameron? Where at is Mary Cameron? I don’t see her anywhere and I . . .
Marty: Mary Cameron’s daughter has brought disgrace to the entire family!
Gerry: Disgrace, disgrace, disgrace!
Tracy: Mary Cameron’s daughter has disgraced the family? How did she do that?
